Ok so my U9s are playing at NASA next weekend and I found out we are at Canterbury (United Quest Park) don't care how many mergers go on it'll always be Canterbury to me. As a native to Atlanta I spent almost every Memorial Day playing the Canterbury Cup so this is like a a great homecoming for me.
This got me wondering to all you former players, parents, coaches, and soccer hooligans what is/was your favorite tourney in the metro to participate in?

The NASA classic to start the fall season is always a good one for the young ones. hot and competitive. I think they have hosted it for close to 20 years.

As far as Atlanta touranments, they all run together for me. As a parent, I enjoy tournaments for the social time as much or more than the soccer time. So I probably have enjoyed the out of town tournaments where we all stay in the same hotel and hang out for meals more than the local ones.

Any one that doesn't get rained out, so I guess the Concorde one in February is out.

The hottest I've ever been in my life was at NASA's August tournament several years back, and I was in the shade! In don't know how the players made it through the games. When players started missing the ball completely when trying to pass or shoot, it was definitely time for them to come out. Thanks goodness they had frequent water breaks. I like tournaments at big parks where lots of teams are together - NASA, GSA and Academy Cup come to mind. Tournaments where the team ends up playing behind a school with just one or two fields don't really have much of a tournament feel.

As a player I don't remember the local tournaments as well, mostly the travel tournaments. Back then you had the Holidome from Holiday Inn - that was fun along with running around the hotel at night.
I do remember what I think is pretty funny now that I am older and a parent about one of those tournaments at Canterbury. I had reffed since I was 14 and would ref whenever I had free time. One day I told a buddy (was probably 16/17 at the time) how much I could make that weekend. Well being the way he was, he went and signed up to ref, bought a black ref jersey and officiated games all memorial day weekend. The sad part was he wasn't even a ex soccer player.
As a parent now I can just imagine watching the game and thinking, that ref doesn't have a clue. He really didn't.

Best for me was the Golden Isles tournament in Jekyll Island, competition may not have been great but location, location, location Not to mention the great seafood. Worst for me is Atlanta Cup, especially coaching multiple teams being so spread out, don't get me started on the fields at Lovejoy.

The overseeded them for the tournament and they were AMAZING!
