www.ussoccerda.com/da-applications-2017-18I know a number of clubs in GA (in addition to CF) have younger DA teams. But, has anyone heard whether these same clubs will start adding older DA teams? If so, what's the sense of it, if it is just another way of referring to the clubs' best teams (replacing RPL with DA)?

I guess a better way to ask my question is whether anyone knows if clubs with younger DA teams will apply for older teams and likely be accepted? Is it the way things are moving for DA?

There is nothing about expanding the DA clubs on the US Soccer website, so my guess would be no there are no current plans to expand. It also doesn't make sense for US Soccer to dilute their pool even further. I think come the end of the DA season there will be a lot of unhappy parents who's kid doesn't make a U13/14 team from all these U12 ones and the furor will begin.

Any word on GAUnited or UFA only applying? Current GA United 14's are talented and would make sense to keep a DA path available.

So enlighten me on this DA process since it's opening up for girls next year - so far three clubs have gotten Girls DA - NTH, UFA and Concorde - correct? Won't this automatically dilute the talent already? How many clubs have boys DA now? Do these teams just play each other and DA teams from other states - a la SRPL?
Personally I think this is a recipe for disaster on the girls side DA ENCL SRPL RPL Division 1 and then you get into Athena? We've got talent in this area but not this much to sustain three DA and four ECNL clubs then the 4+ RPL spots per age group on the girls side.
I'm just not seeing how all these layers are a good thing overall for youth soccer. If the process identifies a few standouts - that's great but what about the other 99% of players?

Not sure if the window is still open, but every year clubs have the option of applying for a particular age-group for DA. Nothing stops you as a club from applying to get your first DA age group team or to expand from say only having U12 and asking for U13, U14, etc. However, the decision to accept a club for a new team or an expansion is entirely based on a few factors and what the landscape looks like. Do you have the coaches, licenses, facilities, etc. Where you are located matters since that determines who and where your opponents are located. It also depends on who decides to stay in the DA club pool. Take Ga United last year giving up the U16s and U18s. US Soccer didn't have to replace since AU took over both teams. Word is Ga United in applying again for U16s and U18s, along with NASA and UFA for the U13s and U14s. It is up to US Soccer to determine if Atlanta can handle 3 DA teams at the higher levels, or if NASA/UFA have put forth a good effort(not wins) in proving they can handle an expansion. We'll hopefully find out in the coming months.

I have heard of several clubs that currently have U12 DA teams that have applied for the older age groups for the 2017-2018 season.
I have also heard that U12 DA will move to 11v11 for the spring season. I don't know if this is accurate or not, but know that several kids not currently playing DA have been invited to try out to be added to the roster for spring season.

It doesn't make sense to expand/dilute DA. And it doesn't make sense to dump a lot of boys back into non-DA soccer after one year of DA.
So... my WAG is they'll do BOTH. They'll expand by 1-2 teams AND dump over 100 kids.

UFA submitted an application for full DA?
Would make sense to me, they have Girls DA, Facilities, coaches and teams. Essentially roll up GA United into UFA.
