Pretty amazing watching the 13s play today.
Atlanta had first pick of the litter and even brought in kids from outside the state and still gets out played.
Shows ya - it's all about the coaching. Both Concordes coaches completely out coached Atlanta united. You would expect better from Atlanta.
TA had to go crazy watching those games.

Watched the 02's and thought much the same. Confire looked better prepared.
AU has tons of individual talent, but I saw no apparent tactical plan. AU was easily broken down by the organized CF defense. AU 02's game plan resembled a track meet.
AU defenders also appear to be learning on the fly - like the staff selected a bunch of CM who are now adapting to an unfamiliar role.
Sadly, I imagine AU staff was salivating at inviting some new recruits from CF for next year, to improve by taking rather than by training.

Pretty crazy to think that if I were taking the top coaches from this city on the current dA teams at the three younger Age groups the Atlanta united coaches wouldn't be picked.
Still stunning that Atlanta united picks approximately 20--24 kids in each age group and can hire any coach they want and their is nothing special about their u12- u14 teams. A few really talented u13s that are monsters but they should be toying with teams. It's all about coaching.

I know some of those AU boys were midfielders or strikers for their club teams before being selected by Atlanta United. When you pick the cream of the crop, you probably selected a bunch of players who were used to playing offense and not defense. You have to have a solid back line before you can even think about offense. A good center back/right back/left back who doesn't mind playing the position is worth his/her weight in gold at the youth level. All the skilled players want to do is score goals but somebody has to play defense and it is hard to convert a 13-year-old used to playing striker and scoring goals with all the attending glory to play in the back.

All the skilled players want to do is score goals but somebody has to play defense and it is hard to convert a 13-year-old used to playing striker and scoring goals with all the attending glory to play in the back. There's a couple ways to explain this: first, these are the best kids in the area, and they were likely the best or one of the best players on their former teams. Their former coach likely recognized their talent and played them farther forward. For an example, AU has an 01 who, as a HS freshman, was the starting #9 for his state championship-winning squad, but for AU (and the Jamaican national team) he plays center back. I would doubt that TA and his staff are just picking kids and forcing them to play defense against their will. If they're playing a kid in the back it's because they see that as his best position. And if it looks like they're still learning defending, it's because they ARE, and that's not a bad thing either.

Watched all three. Fun games.
You have to think its a high pressure environment at atlutd. Lots of stress for those boys.
I think they missed the boat during tryouts for sure. Lets hope they have been doing home work and build better for next year.
Good to see Concorde stand up pretty good against "the best".
grasshopper... totally agree. Out coached for sure. Ryan and Karl are good coaches.

Having 11 1's never works out too well.
