Will clubs be holding separate ID sessions and then subsequent tryouts for ECNL? Or for those clubs that have both, is it expected that it is one big session and they tell you where you fall from there? Real question being, if you are truly more interested in ECNL, should you show up at DA sessions to be safe? This question is related to both boys and girls.

My advise would be that, if a player really wants to play at a particular club, for whatever reason, the player shows up there at the highest level ID session that fits their abilities, and then performs with aplomb, demonstrates their soccer acumen and dazzling technique, and then lets chips fall where they may. Have fun! DO NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT PREFERENCES! If the player is desired by the club for whatever team, let them come to you with a recommendation. If they ask beforehand for preferences, tell them you want to play and improve in the best and most challenging learning environment posssible. Tell them you will be curious and eager to hear what they recommend. You are excited to be here! If, for instance, they come back and say we would love for you to be on DA team, ask for specific details at that point. After you hear all the details, go home to consider them. If the player really does not want to do the DA team and prefers the ECNL team, go back to the club and tell they why the DA opportunity, even though it is awesome, will be tough to make work for player and family THIS YEAR (maybe not next year). Have impeccable logic. Ask at that point if there is any way player could do the ECNL team instead. Ask for details just like you did for DA team. You are so excited to be playing for this club! KEEP DOORS OPEN. Do not give away anything beforehand in negotiations.
