Big US open cup 2nd round game tomorrow! I assume Battery is favored being the USL team, but can the silverbacks put together another magical run.....

Did you see this in an email from the Managing Partner:
Silverbacks Park asked the team to pay $12,500 to play later than 3:30pm tomorrow.
The relationship between the park and the team (and the tie-in with parking, concessions, scheduling) has always seemed to me like the biggest barrier to the Silverbacks' potential success.

Hard to believe this date and time is a surprise... but rescheduling isn't cheap, unless you simply tell paying customers their previously scheduled games are cancelled.

So what's the problem you think? Is there mens/womens league games they don't want to reschedule at the park?

Give them all coupons to get in the game and a free hot dog or beer and they'll be more than happy. Costs a lot less than $12,500. The park has a history of doing stupid things, and it's exceedingly unlikely that they'd lose that much revenue for one night.
What if it rained and the field (inevitably) flooded? Would they be refunding $12,500 to the leagues?

So what's the problem you think? Is there mens/womens league games they don't want to reschedule at the park? thats where they make most of their money. its $800 per team every 10 weeks, if you cancel one night, then you have to push those people to get rescheduled and it throws it out of whack

Shame about the time, but I'll be there. Benefits of having nothing to do on a Wednesday afternoon.
For all of the continuing issues with the Silverbacks they have put together a good, deep squad. They just played 3 games in 4 days and won them all. The Battery have been winning as well, they're top of the Eastern Conference in USL this season.
So, two old rivals, both in great form coming in. Throw in the usual US Open Cup madness, and this promises to be a great one.

Anyone go or watch the game? Wondering how the talent level compared with one another?

Anyone go or watch the game? Wondering how the talent level compared with one another? I was there. It was a very even game. The Silverbacks could have won had a couple of things gone their way. The heat was the defining feature of the match. 95-ish degrees in the mid-afternoon, and it showed on the field as both teams tired out very quickly in the second half, making it a pretty sluggish, stop-start type of match.

Bet it didn't help that that Turf field is crap and gets at least another 10° hotter then the air temperature.
To bad they didn't call GaTech to see about using Bobby Dodd especially with classes out right now. That grass would have been a much better field.

Those kind of agreements cost a lot of money. United is giving GaTech hundreds of thousands of dollars for every game they play in BDS. Boris asked the Silverbacks for 12.5k to offset the cost of rescheduling the Wednesday-night leagues, and that price was too steep for the Silverbacks to take. NPSL teams operate on tiny budgets, so as inconvenient as it was, you have to give the Silverbacks credit for doing what they could.
