deep.. reminds me of Adin Osmanbasic discussion on halfspaces spielverlagerung.com/2014/09/16/the-half-spaces/Alternative scheming in the horizontal; “outside/wing” – “halfspace” – “middle/centre” – “halfspace” – “outside/wing”. For English readers it should also be important that obviously “halfspace” is not a good word, but it’s not an invention but the translation of the word “Halbraum” which is established in Germany already for years by it’s elite coaches and the German FA.

I believe the English term is "channels".

This is great! I will share with my kids. They like to learn new things and have time to read now in the summer... That said, this is rather advanced tactics for most kids. I was taught stuff like this when I got on sr squad back home, never at youth level. I have seen my kids' coaches work a bit on team defending, but very little and rather rudimentary. With 3 practices a week, most coaches for younger kids tend to focus (rightly so) on ball skills and ball movement... Also, so many kids (even in DA) are horrible at one-on-one defending. When to go for it/when to drop. When to tackle and when not to. How to tackle (never once have my kids been taught how to tackle properly other than from me). How to win the ball. Etc. If I was a coach, that's where I would start. Back where I grew up, we got drilled on one-on-defending just about every practice. I'm old and slow now, but my kids (good players) still can't beat me one-on-one despite good ball skills and pace. They get mad... I wish I had the ability to teach 1v1 defending. But I was never taught it myself, so I'm not much help... My son did get exposed to a tiny amount of 1v1 defending during a winter training session at another club - but it really didn't stick. I like the cerebral stuff in the original link. It's akin to the guys who say "if you have to tackle, you've already failed". So many layers to the game - I get the feeling the local club training curricula barely scratch the surface.

I have a defender and I have long felt this same way. We have finishing Fridays, technical training, SAQ training, etc. But we never have 'defending training'. Coaches in the past have said 'we practice defending in everything we do'. Which I guess is technically true but it's more of a learn by doing thing, rather than instruction.
