I had forgotten how well run this event is. Very professional and organized. It's also refreshing to have parents cheering and clapping from the sidelines but not screaming and yelling at the players and the refs. Go team Georgia!

I have never gone to watch - love sub regionals but I draw the line at a week in Montevallo Alabama in July heat But yes - for all the criticism about ODP -warranted or not - the events are very well run

Good number of parents are here. Kid plays at 8:00 am each day with 5:00 pm practice so temps are not awful. Well run event at a superb facility at the University of Alabama. Go Georgia teams!

02 Region 3 Boys pool won against Atlanta United DA tonight 1-0 How was the game? Many chances either way? Possession? Heard AU beat Monterrey the day before. It was about 60/40 for Atlanta United which was to be expected as they have some familiarity with each other. A bulk of the 02 Atlanta United Boys were on the 02 ODP team for a few years, including both of our goalkeepers, it was nice to see them moving on and doing well. As a GK Coach is was fulfilling to see both of my initial 02 ODP GK's both playing for Atlanta United.

ODP were ahead of AU 02s 1-0 last night (0-0 at half). Considering ODP team had not played together they seemed to have the better of the play. I am not sure of the final. Good luck to the players today.

Houston Dynamo 02's were a sight to behold, they beat Atlanta United 2-0 and it was a dominating 2-0. The Dynamo coach placed a high tech drone above the field before the game to record the game from that vantage point for tactical assessments.

Good luck to the players today. The final score was 1-0. Last night's game had 2001 ODP players against the 02 AU's so it was not exactly an even matchup. Also, many of the AU players came to the team after the June showcase so they have not played together that much. That said, I agree that the 01 pool teams looked stronger last night, but AU definitely has a lot of individual talent!

Uncle Arthur needs to step up his game!

about a $5,000 drone to be exact, it has tracking technology so it follows the ball. The coach probably had it about 70-100 feet in the air and it stayed in that position while he coached the game.
The Dynamo coach was the former technical director for the NY Red Bulls

Tried to talk to a club about allowing this almost 2 years ago, and they blew me off.... A friend of a friend has been flying drones for a living an has some of the super high end ones your discussing. Very freaking cool. (side note for the first Atlanta United game, I sat up in the north end zone, about 10 rows up. The seats were shortly closed after that game for renovations, but they were unbelievable seats -- felt very drone like, you could see the entire pitch and all 22 players. I'm always amazed on goal kicks had all 20 players pack it in such a small space around mid field)
So this Atlanta United 02 team -- have we heard what they plan to do next year? Will they just scrimmage teams all year, or will they play in a formal league? Are there any 02's besides bello on the AU u17 (01/02) team for next year?

I'm not sure what the rules are regarding drones at club games, I'm sure they are banned at professional games for security reasons.
As for the AUFC 02's, it's my understanding they will play a full schedule this year.

I've seen drones used a few times for coaching clinics. They'll film a coach running a session to help show how they can improve or what they did right. They are a great ideas for training sessions if you have someone that knows the gear though.

Any reactions to ODP tryouts. O2s had large tryout numbers with 100 plus.

Weather was great. Surprised by the large number of players that showed up. The 02 group alone had 11 or 12 goalkeepers trying out. I did not stay to watch but I did catch some of the scrimmages at the end and it looked like there was a pretty good drop off of ability after the first 20-30 players. My son pointed out that many players that were selected to go to Alabama in the summer did not make it this time.

Can't tell you how happy I am that the numbers were good. We did ODP for years and it really is a great program. My kid thrived by having the additional trainings and coaches. I really do hope the program can continue and do well in conjunction with DA not fighting it!
