Just wondering were all the coaches from last season retained. I haven't really been paying much attention this year so far. A friend told me he saw the great Mike Lynch coaching a team in Charlotte last weekend. So I guess he was obviously retained. He also mentioned Ryan Maur was coaching there as well. I guess the bar to get Atlanta United jobs is pretty low, there were probably 5 better coaches at Norcross last season that I would take above Ryan Maur. My kid trained after his team and his sessions were not impressive and their was very little coaching going on. Robin Dixon's 06 team would play against his and literally run circles around them with their style of play. I know there have been many other threads on this issue, but their 03 and 02 teams last season were not well coached teams and its clear the players took the blame What, in your opinion, makes a great coach? Also, have you talked to those coaches that aren't "great" and learned from them what the are trying to accomplish with the players?

I find some of your observations and conclusions intriguing. Like "Soccernotfootball" asked, what in your opinion makes a good coach? Is it winning? Is it players moving on to bigger and better clubs/teams? Or could your yardstick be players getting recruited for college or the pros? I personally think a frivolous statement about the bar being pretty low is unfair. I'm sure everyone on this forum could name a coach that in their opinion is truly top of the stack, but there are a myriad of factors that go into first a decision to leave for a club like AU and secondly as to whether you stay in your current position. Things like the pay matter, the location and your commute(ATL traffic), is it the right time for you and your family, do you like the tenure and rapport you have built with your current club/team. So I ask again what makes a good coach? On a side note, I can't comment on the coaches but the 02 and 03 teams had some wonderful players. Unfortunately they were unable to come together as a team and play as one. They played as 11 individuals and that never leads to any success.

I have lurked forever, but this post brought me out from hiding...Ryan MAURER is a fine coach (several yrs. of personal exp), & like Futsal Gawdess, I too wonder when you make a blanket statement like that, what is your "good" coaching criteria? Especially, since at some point, I believe Ryan M. had some coaching of 6 of the 8 boys that are representing AU from UFA. 🤷🏽♀️

Honestly Howard the duck could be coaching at Atlanta united and kids would still be lined up to play there --
One huge reason why - it's free vs the thousands of dollars the rest of us suckers are paying!

Ryan seems to be doing well with the U12(06) team, parents seem to like him. Steve is the 04 coach and the kids love him. i like his style of coaching, very positive. Matt took the 03 spot and he's a beast. He's putting together a national level team. Not sure of all the older team coaches.
I like the fact that all the AtlUtd coaches watch the other teams and even help from time to time. They all want the teams to succeed.
