A nation of about 335,000 people. Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb and Gwinnett counties all have a much larger population.
That is really amazing. Perhaps Euro 2016 was not an outlier.
Plus cool chants and fans!

Great things can happen when your soccer association puts millions of dollars in educating coaches at the youth level, building facilities, and emphasizing development over wins, but instead we have US Soccer. Iceland has a much better chance of winning a World Cup before the US does now.

Hence, why we need more regional base identification of players at the youth levels. The NTCs are the same kids, over and over. yea, new kids are brought in, but man last years were a broken record of the same group over and over and clear misses.
Hence, also why old school ODP had it right --
top club teams identify players states identify top players regions identify top players etc and compete.
I still think the players are out there, its an identification conundrum. Look if your a strong player on a week team, it can be hard to stand out, I've seen kids/men/adults look like garbage on a bad team, but when thrown out there with a true competitive squad they are magical.
I also, don't think having the same staff at NTCs is the best option either, you constantly need different looks at kids with different coaches, and communication. We have played against some flat out studs in DA, and I was stunned to never see some get an invite to either National Centers or a national youth camp.

I would say they were in a lenient group, but they got the job done. Awesome for them.
That Federation obviously makes the most of their resources. Grassroots. Inclusive not exclusive. Don't short circuit the evaluation process at 12 years of age. Last year I was shocked to learn that, on girls side, something like 75-80% of players at U-20 YNT level had been in program since U-14 GNT. How is that possible?

Yea, not sure how that is even possible in.....
Wait, I guess I do get how that is possible since that is how US soccer operates.......

Well girls develop more quickly than boys which may contribute to the fact that they get identified earlier.
14 year old boys may easily grow anywhere between 6 to 12 inches and put on lots of muscle mass. If they don't then in many cases their athletic careers may have peeked in middle or high school.
14 year old girls rarely have that kind of growth spurt which combines height and muscle mass.
However the other points are well made and considered. The identification system and development system is flawed in the u.s.
