I saw this released today... DPL will have their first set of games shortly.... Looks like the Texas teams are coming to Atlanta to play the George (surprise), South Carolina and Florida teams... There is a surpise name in the team list. LOL! DPL website: dpleague.orgEvent Website: events.gotsport.com/events/default.aspx?EventID=74975

Yes the surprise is that UFA is playing in this showcase. The offer was extended several weeks ago.

So I take it UFA Forsyth Premier will use DPL as an adjunct-league? I was of the opinion that NTH should have lobbied to join NPL, it would have completely made sense (adding a 4th GA team to balance numbers/trips).

As far as I know right now, UFA is just playing in this one showcase supposedly to even out numbers. I am not 100% sure on that though. FC Virginia is not coming to the Atlanta showcase hence the need for UFA.

Once again strictly speaking about girls from a Tophat perspective they probably would consider NPL a step down from where they want to build their 2nd teams to go. I dont necessarily agree with that approach, but thats my guess. It will be interesting to see what DPL develops into (if anything).

View from NTH management is that NPL is not strong enough to be a full-time league and that it will devolve into a supplemental league like Super-Y.
So far, DPL is unfolding as presented during pre-tryout meeting.

DPL just needs about 80 more teams from Colorado-to-NY to make it viable. If DPL becomes viable it will simply water things down even more, I doubt they'll steal anyone from ECNL. Kudos to USYS getting further into the money/fracturing US Youth Soccer game though. Eventually every club will have its own league, and they'll all be champions.
I strongly doubt NTH's 2nd teams will ever be much better than top-1/3 NPL (hence why they're in this position). Because its the 2nd team. When you can be on the top team at a club playing ECNL, DA, (or for some) even NPL its always better than the 2nd best team in a lower league. They can continue to serve the Kool Aid though, plenty will drink it.

My problem with DPL is that locally there are not enough clubs to make it desirable. In California the clubs are deep enough for nearly all of them to have super strong 2nd teams and they can play games close to home with only a few hours of travel. For DPL here to be an awesome league you would need all of the DA and ECNL clubs in Ga, NC and SC to decide to have it and even then it would be weaker than the California or Texas clubs. We just aren't as deep here. I just don't want to travel to Virginia, south Florida and do showcases in Texas and California to play 2nd teams. It seems like a lot of travel for a 2nd team even if they are really good. That being said I would probably do it if that is what my club offered because I find the travel on a half dozen weekends more doable than traveling to another club 3-5 days per week (have two kids).

My only concern for this league is I think Tophat might get a little slap in the face. Many of the the girls that played ECNL and SCCL left once Tophat lost ECNL. I know for some Tophat DPL teams they stretched on some offers to girls to come over to play. I know some of the ECNL girls left to play DA elsewhere and some SCCL girls left to play Concorde Premier and Composite. Hopefully they will have a good showing

I heard they have tried to get it back but currently being blocked by other clubs.

I am sorry but all this is just a huge mess and none of it makes any sense.

I am sorry but all this is just a huge mess and none of it makes any sense. Speaking strickly about girls ... Interestingly enough I agree that ALL of this is a huge mess. When I say all, I mean all of the leagues not just the new ones (SCCL, DPL, NPL, etc) but the old ones as well (ECNL, NL, DA, USYS). Its a mess primarily because adults can NOT or WILL not come to the table to create a unified platform. I have said this many times, its not about what club my child attends and thus I support the league the club supports. This issue is much bigger than the 6 big clubs or 6 small clubs. This is a failure at the highest levels of American soccer. (stepping off soapbox now) So because US Soccer is failing, I dont fault any parent for playing in any league that they deem is better for their child....
