Would you yell at your child during a ballet performance? Piano recital? Chorus concert? If you can exhibit self control in those moments certainly the same restraint can be shown at an athletic event.

NASA Tophat provides group GK training four days a week all ages/levels no additional cost Very impressive. Sounds like you’re familiar with the goalie training process. If you had the ability to play at any/multiple club(s) how would you pick where to play? 1. Frequency of goalie sessions? 2. Skill level of teammates? better teammates could be better practice sessions but it could also mean limited to no action during games. 3. Solo vs split time? If split how would you weigh the talent level of other keeper splitting time? I'm one of the GK Coaches at Tophat, I also coach on the girls side as well. I also serve as Staff GK Coach for ODP. For any player I would suggest playing in an environment where they are challenged and surrounded by players of like expectations/commitment. The level of team would ultimately depend on what the players goals are: do they want to play in college? Exposure to showcases and college coaches that is appropriate for the level they want to play in college. I would suggest that if a GK is playing at the GA or ECNL level that the opposing teams would provide adequate competition in games (for the most part). From a players perspective I'm sure they would like to play full time for developmental reasons, from a coaching perspective I'm sure they would want to carry two GK's to create a competitive environment at practice. I've personally seen too many GK's who's work habits decrease when they know they are going to play every minute of every game because there isn't anyone to push them for playing time. "Iron Sharpens Iron" as they say. If a team carries two GK's depending on the level of play the coach may elect to play one more than the other vs split equally. The reasons why would depend on each coach. The criteria I would use to assess a goalkeeper might be different than how a team coach may assess their goalkeepers. Also who the team responds better to can push the decision to start one vs the other. There are a lot of great shot stoppers out there but lack the ability to play with their feet (a topic I could write paragraphs about), communication/organization and having a big personality. Having those qualities can ultimately be the deciding factor as to who starts in the goal.

NASA Tophat provides group GK training four days a week all ages/levels no additional cost Is that at each location? or its offered 4 days a week at 4 different locations? Various locations- some nights they have sessions at multiple locations to support at many goalkeepers as possible.

Most clubs have open house nights the week before tryouts, it's a good opportunity to train with the current players and allow the coaches to see your child for a few days before tryouts begin.

It's not SSA it's Lakepointe who charges the parking fee, that's standard at all their events.

My wallet disagrees but it may be my particular situation. I don’t ever remember having to travel to California 10 years ago, but perhaps that’s just my experience. Different issue. Even on the high level teams at the top leagues they still do fewer games than they used to do. The travel to far away places has gone up and the prices of some tournaments have as well. I think it is ridiculous to take U12 teams to California or Texas but people are doing that now rather than playing one or two more local tournaments. I think that has changed for Tophat, UFA, Concorde and GSA. That is where the money goes. Flights, hotels and coaches per diems instead of a local fee to play Concorde or Tophat tournaments and also AFC and RYSA or SSA etc. I do like the preseason friendlies at CESA and now CSA. At least those are car rides. While it is better on the kids’ bodies they are only getting two games instead of 3 or 4 Speaking for the Tophat Academy Girls teams we did three consecutive weekends of tournaments in August for preseason and will do two post season tourneys in Nov/Dec

Most of the SSA Northside girls were at NTH tryouts this week. I feel really bad about how their coaches and parents are being treated. …how many of their old coaches were present? They were a large number there from the Boys and Girls sides

Possibly moving to Atlanta area in the near future looking for recommendations for the younger girls teams. I know at that age most clubs are pretty decent as far as coaching and player development, but if possible I prefer to find a club that they can stick with as they get older. Tophat vs Concorde for the younger girls? I coach academy girls at Tophat (Buckhead), feel free to send me a PM and I'll be happy to answer any specific questions you may have. Best of luck with your search.

Besides Alec Kahn not sure if I’ve ever seen an Atlanta United player at a youth soccer game not involving Atlanta United. Parky, Garza and Guzan - I saw at youth games while they were in season. Garza is coaching at Concorde now, I spoke to him briefly at a tournament a few weeks ago, great guy.

So I finally sat through and looked closely at this video and it’s even dumber and more troubling than I initially thought. This guy’s shtick consists mainly of wanting trifling fouls called; expecting simple fouls that were actually called to be punished more severely; and triggered by situations that were well within the bounds of what girls at this level are expected to be able to handle. In sum, this guy seems oblivious to both the laws of the game and the laws of physics. What’s troubling to me is that the criticisms he makes are also common refrains I hear week in week out while on the pitch - especially at this age of play where parents have not yet realized that competitive soccer involves physical contact. Most parents are content to leave the comments at the field, but this guy drove two hours home and made this video, then came here, created a profile and shared it. The video personally attacks a referee. He mocks him and he questions his mental capacity. This referee is a good man who spends several hours each weekend refereeing so that kids can play competitive soccer. The guy also attacks the 12 year old girls who play for NTH. Not a good look for a parent with 9,000+ YouTube followers to be calling the NTH players abusers and their style of play dirty and brutal. I really wonder if this guy realizes how poorly this makes Hoover Vestavia Soccer look? Parent is likely an IT person who never played a sport

This really is much ado about nothing. Ask most opposing coaches in Atlanta to describe Tophat teams I would be willing to bet "physicality" would be way down the list.

I have young daughter who may want to play ODP - at what age do kids get into ODP? My older son never wanted to play, so I know very little about the program. Thank you! 2012 is the youngest age group this cycle, tbey may take an occasional 2013 but they have to be exceptional

Do I have the path right here? anyone registers—->all get looked at—->get invited to tryout—->either make it or don’t. |—>don’t get invited so don’t show up Does everyone actually get looked at from independent coaches outside the clubs? What is the commitment if you make it? Thanks to those who’ve fought the fight and are willing to help us newbies with your advice. I am an ODP Staff Coach for the younger age groups, please send me a DM, I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

It pains me to say this but given the current climate in America people are less tolerant and more hateful than ever before, the immediate access to social media, phones, etc allows people to bully others from afar 24/7. Parents fighting at sporting events, parents and players assaulting referees and the recent rise in teenage and college athletes killing themselves over abuse/mental health is shocking. Unfortunately given that parents allow or don't modify their kids behaviors leads me to believe its going to get worse. I had an incident once with a younger team that was bullying one of their teammates over group chat and I didn't know about it. Once I found out about it, I discussed it with the parents and the team. Let's just say the offending players didn't touch a ball at practice for the next two weeks. Character and being a good teammate is more important than ability. It could also be that the parents are unaware in some instances. What were the parents responses to it once you discussed it with them? I feel parents should be asking questions about your kids daily lives, be involved, and knowing their friends, who the hang around, etc... But even then, some kids stuff is kept from the adults... at least you have a chance to catch the bad stuff before it goes too far. Some parents were thankful for me taking the stance that I did, as they said "too many teachers and coaches look the other way" or "allow players to get away with stuff because of their ability", some felt I should have just "let it slide" and it was "just kids being kids"...which it wasn't. Too many parents let their kids slide or absolve them of personal responsibility and the problems get worse as they progress into their teens/adulthood.

Anyone know the details on exactly what they did: (keep in mind Amanda Cromwell was the womens head coach at UCLA during the sports/academic pay scandal.......) Pride head coach Amanda Cromwell & first assistant coach Sam Greene have been placed on administrative leave Either the Pride FO didn't perform their due diligence or they did and chose to look the other way. The Pride's first round draft pick refused to play for the team, she played for Cromwell at UCLA. There have been reports of abusive behavior towards players. You would think with all the NWSL Coaching scandals that FO's would be more diligent about who they hire.

What do you think about Atlanta United "showing our Pride" pushing Pride Month on the youth at their summer camps? When did youth soccer become a vehicle to promote agendas to support subjects of morality? Do they think it will increase the fan base enough to offset the losses of fans like myself? They can scratch me from the next two RDS training camps that were on my calendar. That will save me $600, plus any tickets to AU games. Or could it be big brother paying off money hungry sports franchises to push their beliefs? AU, you should be so proud of yourself to award your MVP 10 & 11 yr old campers with autographed Pride jerseys.... It's really hard to take someone seriously named "comeonref69" who created an account just to post a thinly vieled homophobic rant but I'll indulge you. Answer me this- how does the color of someone's skin, a gay couple or who a person loves impact your life on a daily basis? If your neighbors were a same sex couple how would that negatively impact your life? Pretend I'm dumb and explain it to me in the most remedial way possible. The country is in the mess its in because people are less tolerant of other people's beliefs/lifestyle. Do you think having a pride jersey is going to negatively impact your child? Maybe use it as a teachable moment for your child, isn't that what we are supposed to do as parents? Kids are getting killed in schools and you're worried about a pride jersey??? Maybe if these 18 year olds with AR-15's had better parenting/examples all of those families who lost their children could watch their children grow up and pursue their dreams. I see pictures of A2 apologists with their entire family holding AR-15's including their toddlers, I would be far worried about that type of "grooming" vs allowing my child to understand that people are different and shouldn't be discriminated against because of who they choose to love.
