They arent successful because they arent a team.
The hype was team environment but unfortunately that is so far from the truth. Its all about WHO they think is worthy. Everyone else is just for show. Lack of true leadership. All you get is the same old BS lies. After you hear it so many times, the trust is so gone.
Even after Academy, ... crickets...
I see way more club coaches care about an individual and their families than at AU. Yes AU is a pro business but it doesnt even act like one. Plenty of after academy players can go pro division 2,3, or 4th all over the world. But ZERO help from the club. They cant even get you the college looks.
I have spoken to many academy players after leaving, graduating, etc... and they said they would never go back an represent AU/AU2.
Personally, they need to get ride of everyone running the academy. New blood. New hope.

Its really, really bad. No only are they bringing them in, the colleges are giving a large amount of money. So many kids in the portal, so many internationals. MLS Next Academy, ECNL showcase. So really only 1 or 2 showcases the coaches will go to. HUNDREDS of emails. So you have to figure out a way to stand out. We emailed, texted, called etc... for 1.5 years. Plus was at an MLS Academy. Its very hard. Finally ended up at a D1 Good luck on the search. Keep pushing. Is he happy? D1 is nice, but was it the right fit? I know your player was a great one at his academy. I just hope he is enjoying it! For all of those out there this is really 💯 a different recruiting game boys v girls. My kid did put it out there and had contact with several D1 schools and came very close to the dream school before a debacle happened on the club front AND the long time head coach of that school retired. My kid decided not to pursue college soccer and played a lower level club team for fun as a senior. We sent no further emails. No tweets. But couldn’t figure out how to take down the free NCSA profile. Senior year was FLOODED with offers from D2, D3, NAIA schools many of whose were in the top 10 nationally at their level. These programs never saw my kid in person that we know of (maybe they were at the showcases sophomore and junior year or watching them online), they never spoke personally to my kid. Money thrown at us. Even the school that my kid chose to attend asked her to play and she said no thanks. My point is that if you put it out there early people see it. Some of those early tweets got thousands of views as did the NCSA profile. And for girls they need players at all levels below D1 so badly that they email even days before classes start. Build their name early. I see people doing it already with 2028 and 2029 grads. It works better for girls but it will work for boys too. And if they want to play more than anything they will find a home. If they decide to give it up then there will be many people that say your kid wasted their talent. My kid gets told that a lot. I hope for an eventual return to the game somehow. Maybe they will coach and be a better coach than the jerks that helped to finally kill the joy. Yes he's really happy. He had a few D2/D3 choices but decided to go with a smaller D1. But 1st year was very hard. Lots of promises that weren't kept. Started 1 game and played a few mins here / there. His 2nd year big difference. Started half the season. Looking for full season next year.

Since we're about 2 weeks away from the end of the regular college soccer season, the dead period and NLI signing for the Class of 2024, I thought it would be nice time to ask some questions of the class. Soon colleges will begin their "winter recruiting tours" and a young lady - Blanca Aaliyah Lilly-Ling (B.A.L.L) would love to play the beautiful game in college. With your help, comments and suggestions, I'd like to guide her on what to do and look out for to ultimately get an offer to play division 1 footy. I may ask questions on her behalf in the hopes of increasing her chances of success... TIA!!! As a current sophomore, what steps does B.A.L.L need to be doing now, so that in 32+ weeks she's more likely to be chatting with colleges on June 15, 2024 B.A.L.L would like to know about social media, videos, research on colleges, etc. Profile: Name: Blanca Aaliyah Lilly-Ling Age: 15 League: ECNL/GAL Position: D/M/F GPA: 3.85 Major: Business GPA needs to be high. 3.7-4.0 (volunteer, be a community leader) Current game videos- Speed of play, off the ball speed, soccer IQ. goals or blocks - Showcase the different positions played. Make wish list (top 10) for D1 and D2 Make contact list of about 50 schools in each division Follow schools and coaches of interest on social media Attend key IDs a: ones hosted by schools of choice (1-3 of them) b: Multi school ID (1-2) If attending Showcases- make flyer of key stats (GPA and Club level resume) with QR code linking to videos Tell coaches of schedules (make it easier for them to find you) Ask what showcases are they going to! expectations--- Not starting freshman year. Maybe not even playing freshman year. Expect to pay for College (no full rides) Coaches will say one thing but do another. Dont be surprised. Good luck.

I'm reaching out on behalf of my 2006 daughter hoping to connect with teams or individuals who might be on the lookout for a dedicated goalkeeper. She is currently playing with a Striker GPL team (also plays Harrison HS), however the club team is not doing any tournaments. Her primary ambition is to play in tournaments to not only further her skills but also gain exposure. She brings with a wealth of experience, team spirit, and a tireless work ethic to any team willing to open its doors to her. If you, or someone you know, are in need of a reliable GPL/SCCL goalkeeper as a guest player for upcoming tournaments please do consider getting in touch. I am more than happy to share my playing history, references, and any other required information. In some tournaments you can put her on a list to guest play. We did this with my son (Disney tournament) and was an amazing exp. They ended up winning the age group. Also, might be too late but Keeper Wars this this weekend. Great, fun tournament for keeper only.

They actually start pre-season towards the end of January and kick off pre-season games in February before the actual season begins in late March. I understand your point, and it's disheartening that even in the lower-level 3rd division of MLS Next Pro, we struggle to compete. At some point this season, we've had at least 8 homegrown players, maybe 2 Generation Adidas players, and three members of the senior team play with AU2, all without significant success. Unfortunately, all we managed were nine wins. It seems that the South American pipeline for senior players continues, and our local players might need to explore other avenues for development and progress in the game. I wonder when winning will become a priority because winning not only fosters better players but also garners more attention for these players, leading to more opportunities. Slowly, the AU pipeline from Academy to the 2s just doesn't seem to be a viable option these days... AUs pipeline Academy to 2's needs a total revamp. Same formula will equal same results. Cherry picking talent out of the pool and providing those "special picks" extra training needs to stop. Do that for everyone. So many players have to go out and get "extra" training.

Less than 2% of high school make it to any level of college. Only 0.4% of players make it to any professional level. Players can gain some advantage by having strong academics. Coaches consider that heavily in soccer where 30 to 35 players split 14 scholarships for womens and 9 in mens. This also explains why those players number 25 to 35 may get none of the athletic money. However this doesnt keep them from academic scholarships. Yep very hard. Even harder since Covid. The portal is crazy. More and more international players as well.

If they stop internationals coming in and taking college spots then we may have a chance.
But ZERO ZERO path way.
So you play in College... What do you do in the Spring? How about the Summer? Constant emails to USL2, UPSL, NASL, etc..
No direct path. Every man for himself.
Colleges need to be partnered with local Pro/Semi Pro teams and actively market players to those teams.

I get it talent is objective - but i've lost hope -- hence why US will underperform. 2 of the best players in a particular age group in this city didn't get "accepted" at AU after lengthy trials. One in particular is a flat out stud, baller, game changer, touch, IQ, pace, work ethic is unapparelled. shocking to be honest. Both run circles around their current roster in this age group. I heard both showed extremely well as well based upon the feedback, but were told basically they didn't want to drop a few current players given how long they had been there. are these kids USYNT team players, one could be potentially in my opinion. But that really isn't the point, both are phenomenal talents. Very frustrating to hear and observe from a far. Happens all the time. Political landscape at AU is hard to overcome. To be honest, probably good they didnt get selected. If true ballers then they will get seen.

2s have 4 games left, probably have to win all 4 to make the playoffs. They don't play again until the 2nd, team need a legit scrimmage. they have conceded 9 goals the last 2 games. make that 14 if you include this scrimage and the last 3 games. Defense needs to get it worked out. Not sure where the problem is, but this team doesn't defend as a team. granted, i've only watched snippets of this team play. They have always struggled. I still feel they just dont have an identity. You would think the 19s plus the pro players, you would be a solid program. Top 5-10. But still lots of individuality.

I dont know. Clayton State played AU2. Lets not make excuses for AU2. Rather let's recognize Clayton State for the beat down they put on AU2. Well. for sure credit. Clayton is a sold program. I think they tied 1-1 vs GA State in preseason. But... AU2 is known to play mostly Academy players in games like this. I wonder if the start was close and then as those academy players mixed in thats when the beat down happened.

Can't believe this forum is almost 10 years old. You young timers don't understand what a cesspool the old Georgia soccer forum was. It was U G L Y!!!!! spam, name calling, lies, you name it. It was reality TV before reality tv. I created this on a whim to show, a little moderation go's a long way!! Credit to you all and the kids! This forum is not much different than the old forum. This place has plenty of name calling. And a large number of the most active users that post participate in the name calling. It is typically what we would label the more "progressive" on the board that do it the most and cheer each other on. I think the difference is when people agree with the name calling they call it cute. Call me crazy, I don't think anyone should make posts personal on a message board. This forum doesn't have spam, I would give you that. Way better and actually tame. Its soccer, its personal...lol Can be very informative and entertaining. Nothing wrong with a little slide tackle here and there, maybe a dirty elbow in the back from time to time.

The issue there is firing people off of accusations— because there may be legal repercussions. He has a contract, and I’m sure he pulled it out. I also have heard the rumblings of scenarios you mention. While I disagree with letting him stay while under investigation, no one really knows the actual accusations, what is on paper (we know rumors) and no one knows the SOP for the club and what happens when an accusation like this occurs. If we were asking the right questions, it would be- “what is UFA/ECNL, etc PROTOCOL when an accusation of abuse happens” Whether we like it or not, whatever that procedure is— they have to follow it. And we likely agreed to it when we sign docs. It’s our job as parents to determine if we continue to allow our children in that scenario and whether we choose to stay while they implement the procedure. It’s also our job as parents to say hey enough when people play in our face about our kids and a service we pay for. It's been a few years, but having been a TM in the past I know they, along with the coaches, are obligated to take a LONG on-line class, with a Q&A session at the end of each section (you have to pass) going over proper protocols for behavior around kids, etc. It takes more than a few hours to even finish the courses because it is so thorough. Unfortunately, I can't remember all of the consequences and the steps that will be taken if those guides are possibly broken. The point is, I know they have procedures that will be followed. It is laid out in detail, so I know ECNL has that stuff covered for employment (along with a background check you have to pay for). Any TM's out there with a better memory than mine might be able to shine more light on it. No Team manager involved. They all follow under the uscenterforsafesport.org/ safe sport guidelines. Safe sport and local law enforcement is the procedure. Not the club, not the team manager.

*** College Coaches DO NOT WANT TO TALK TO YOU, the PARENT. This is your child's journey.
Make a list of Colleges, then make another list of Colleges Make a game plan (Plan A, Plan B, Plan C) Try and watch last years games (ESPN+ and other sports channels) Be patient. 1000's of players are reaching out to coaches

I hope whoever got released lands on their feet and has a good support system to let them know it’s not the end of the world. It’s odd but I’ve yet to see a player released from AU show up on another team and be one of the top players. They’re usually middle of the pack on their new teams. I’m not sure if it’s the confidence blow from being released or what’s happening but they certainly don’t show the quality one would expect. And worse, it’s usually a downward slide from there. IMO, AU should do a better job of supporting these kids after a release. AU should do a better job of supporting these kids after a release... This right here! They DO NOT do anything. Even current players at AU, no mental support. No mental coach..ZERO Cuts always happen at AU. If they are getting rid of u12 and U16 then even more so this year. Good luck to those that are.

I can tell you not a lot of Colleges are handing out $$ to play. They are saving that for top level or international recruits.
The commitment is pretty high D1 and D2. So your player might find it difficult if not liking the travel/ commitment now.
Most scouts are pulling from Portal, International, MLS Academies, MLS Next, ECNL, and then High School. The chances of playing college soccer is very, very slim.
D3 is best bet but even then, you probably will have to still play club.

Unfortunately thats the way it is. College is even worse.
Apply it to like football. 1st string (75-100% time), 2nd string(45-74%), 3rd string (25-44%). etc..
Maybe she/ he should talk to coach. Weaker games try and get play time. What do i need to do in order to get more play time?
Training is when most of the development happens.

Jose Silva is by far the best coach the academy has had. I see him moving up the ranks quickly. Still a HUGE disconnect by MLS is not allowing collegiate players in the MLS Next Pro "league". are next pro players being paid? Some are some are academy players

We’re in the Alpharetta area and pretty open to commute for a quality program. Both of my girls play up at their current club and really enjoy the sport. Do all clubs have tryouts the same week? What’s the best way to be seen besides weekend games prior to tryouts? UFA is probably your best bet. Solid club. One of the Big 5 and is pretty close.

Looks like Garth Lagerwey's plan for reorganizing AU is underway. First, the venerable CB has been forced to leave his Ivory Tower and was spotted for the first time ever at one of the MLS Showcases supporting the AU Academy. Guess he has to earn his way in with the new boss. Additionally, hearing that JC will no longer be yelling like a Banshee on the sidelines. Spoke with a current AU2 player who confirmed, but I have not gotten a second independent confirmation. Stay tuned for more moves already in the pipeline... Confirmed!

I received this from a mom on the U17s today when I reached out to her and she agreed to let me post this... "It’s laughable that AU2 has a record of 4–20-4 and is sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. I’m not even sure if you can pinpoint it to just one specific problem in the team. But I do know that their defense seems to be lacking, especially when it comes to finishing a match. As you know, X0X0X0X(name redacted) plays on the 17s and we too are having the same defensive problems. Can you imagine we have let in 25 goals so far? I have followed the rest of the AU Academy & I am more than surprised that none of the defenders who currently play for the U19 and are committed to Clemson have seen any time on the pitch with the 2s. I thought Clemson was a good soccer school. It's just bizarre really. " Politics at its best. Same story for years, more so now. If you even say anything as a parent, they will scarlet letter your player. The chosen ones can do no wrong on or off the field and get way more special treatment. My conclusion to this is lack of coaching/ development experience, lack of true leadership, lack of mentorship, and WAY too much Ego. Not sure if any have children and if they do for sure not teenagers. BTW... AU does not prepare the players for success. This is by no means a hate on AU. I love the club. I just think they need to provide all the ingredients to all of the products. I give them 2 stars.
