For the last few years, the Commerce High School Girls Soccer Team has done really well. They have advanced deep in the playoffs several years in a row. It was thought they would have another great season, however their record does not look as though they have. Does anyone have any information on what has happened with them this year?

The only United Jersey I have for myself is the White/Gold one. I despise Red and Black due to it being UGAg colors. I refuse to own red shirts or jerseys. It is good to stand on principle!

Like most things, some will like these kits, some won't. I am a pretty boring person, and these kits are just not my style. While I don't like them at all, I do like the result while the team wore them. So, I am fine if the team wears them every match if the results are the same. I am pretty certain the team does not care if I like them or not, nor should they!
Last night was an impressive result. The new signings are certainly making an impact.

GHSA really needs be more thoughtful about how they put together brackets. Greenbriar was undefeated, but played a really lackluster Region I schedule without facing any truly competitive teams.
Playoff brackets are identical throughout all sports in GHSA. It is not just soccer where there can be a disparity in talent, thus a lopsided result in a championship game.

Handful of yellows would have worked fine. Only potential red was the girl doing the original takedown, but that would be a stretch and contingent upon what shenanigans she had already pulled. I'm old school - red cards are for clear punches or kicks to the face.
Only seeing this one video clip, I agree with the above opinion. What we cannot see is any prior issues with any of these players, cannot hear what is being said, nor can we grasp the temperature of the match simply by watching this clip. Something else may have warranted a red card, however what I see in this clip does not appear to be deserving of a red card.

If the player had moved in this way toward the AR, there would be strong calls to have him suspended for a very long time. Seems like that should be what happens to this AR. He should be suspended for a very long time.
Saying all that: as a ref since 1985......honesty compels me to admit I have certainly felt like doing this before to a player or coach, and certainly a spectator. My suspicion is that most officials have occasionally briefly considered something similar before coming to their senses.
In an adult league game many years ago, a player pretty much went crazy on the referee. So much so, the game had to be abandoned. This player called the ref all kinds of names, some with racial connotations. After a while of this going on, the ref said, "You need to go away. Or I will remove my jersey, and then I am no longer a referee." That was quite a sight to see.
Part of the responsibility of officials is to stay calm even in the midst of all kinds of chaos. This was certainly a poor decision by this AR. Officials are human, and can get caught up in emotions just like coaches and players and spectators. That is not the right thing to do, yet it is simply true. Just like players, coaches, spectators.....when the high emotions lead to poor decisions and behaviors, there must be repercussions for those actions.
My bet, this AR will not be on the touchline in the Premier League any time soon.

Does anyone know the result of the UGA-Auburn game this past weekend? How is UGA doing overall this Spring?
Thanks.

Reports are saying talks between Marsch and Southhampton are breaking down. It is reported Marsch wants a long term deal, and the club does not want that.

Are parents allowed to coach loudly at HS games? My daughter is not in HS yet but when she is, she might be on JV or Varsity with someone who has an extremely annoying parent, and I'm already worrying about this parent poisoning things like has happened before. Unless the coaches/administrators or someone else from the school puts a stop to it, it can certainly happen. In fact, this often does happen. Let me rephrase: it most likely WILL occur. Now, if the coaching turns into "Profanity, degrading remarks, and intimidating actions directed at officials or competitors....." those can certainly be dealt with by removal. The partial quotation above comes straight from the GHSA sportsmanship statement that is supposed to be read to spectators prior to the start of each match.

I'm not sure if this was shown on the telecast. During the break after regulation time and before the OT begun, one of the UNC coaches went to the GK and was coaching her to jostle (push by his actions) players from UCLA out of her way on the corner. Nevertheless, I think this tweet captures the feels on the faux foul... This is a perfect summation of sports and fandom. My team never commits a foul. The other team always commits a foul. We see it in all sports, and it is understandable due to the emotion of the moment.

When our daughter was playing U12, in another state, she forgot her cleats. I broke land speed records to go home and bring them back.
I returned, and the game was maybe 5 minutes or so in. I sat down in my chair and noticed a bench was on the field. Meaning a team bench was actually several yards on the field. It was a turf complex, and each field was lined and used in various ways. Older age groups used one set/color of lines, and younger age groups used a different set. Older age group played right before our game, thus the bench was in the correct position for that field, however nobody noticed its location for the next game. It was not near the corner flag or right on the line....it was a few yards inside the field and inside the penalty area.
So, when the ball was at the other end of the field, I quickly went on the field, picked up the bench, and was moving it off the field. The adult AR on that end loudly chastised me for being on the field during the match. I mean loudly, meant to embarrass me.
I merely said, "Well, if you had actually noticed this, like you should have, I would not be out here doing this." Proceeded to carry the bench off the field, and went back to my seat.
What I can still not figure out is how 3 adult officials, some coaches, at least for the team that warmed up on that end, and all those parents that know so much, did not notice this.

Interesting. I knew him "back in the day" as a pretty good, young, referee. To see he is 40 years old certainly makes me feel old.
Well, good for him. US Soccer seems to always be in some kind of mess. Maybe he can straighten things out.

That is terrible. How bad must his peripheral vision be to NOT see that chunky dude coming at him? They don’t pay enough money for that kind of abuse. It appears as though the AR was dealing with a player or two, which probably took all of his attention. I know you were saying that tongue in cheek... This kind of stuff is what is driving so many away from the game. The referee team may be terrible, they may be good, regardless, this behavior is reprehensible.

Good question about the admission standards. I think we all know there are different standards for athletes than the general student body. My suspicion is players utilizing this program will be judged by the minimums required for athletes, not the typical student standards. Of course, I could be wrong.

This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine...seasons running together. Maybe I am recalling incorrectly but I don't remember my high school seasons overlapping so much even if we went deep into playoffs. The max I recall is one week and that only occurred if we were semi-finals for state. Am I alone in this? Seems like each sport has a longer game season. It seems to be such a shame that kids miss several competitive games in one sport for another. I recall that as well. Today’s schedules make it hard on the parent and the athletes. I will also add it seemed you had a couple of weeks off between seasons, too. Good to rest/heal. I grew up in metro Atlanta, and went to high school in the late 80s. I distinctly remember our basketball team playing region games against schools where they had players still playing football. This was early November I would bet. Also, I remember my senior year, our first soccer game was February 21. We did not play that night due to some ice in the area, or the threat of ice in the area, or something like that. This is obviously a good bit later than the first games played this year. I don't know why I remember that date, when I cannot remember the names of my kids sometimes, nor can I remember what I had for breakfast. I know at our rural, mountain high school, boys often go straight from football to basketball or wrestling. Often girls move straight from basketball to soccer or track.

Zlatan was a good bit older when he tore his. He was 35, and he seems to have come back from it just fine. Then again, we probably all know he is not exactly a normal human.
This is really difficult to hear for Morris. Like someone said above, he is not my favorite player. Regardless, this is not an injury and situation I would wish on anyone. Finally make the jump to Europe....and boom. How discouraging this must be for him.

It is a strange response. Sounds like he is admitting to a mistake on the surface. Meaning, “I should have played him, yet did not.”
Or maybe he is just telling everyone to be patient, Pulisic will get his chance.

I remember an article in Sports Illustrated back in the 90s about a ton of women’s basketball players suffering this injury. vault.si.com/vault/1995/02/13/out-of-joint-womens-basketball-is-making-great-strides-but-it-is-suffering-an-epidemic-of-torn-knee-ligaments-along-the-wayWhen my daughter tore hers, the surgeon simply said it was from overuse. I will only speak for my daughter, she is a hard charger that really did not grasp how and when to back off a bit. That mindset is often what makes them good players. The drive to work hard every training session can certainly lead to overuse injuries. I suspect other players suffering the same injury have a similar mindset. She is now fortunate that her high school coach will listen to her when she says she needs to take her foot off the gas a bit in training. Many players at many high schools do not have that kind of relationship with their coach. Of course, some players might abuse that situation. As for the playing on turf portion of this topic, all I can say is our experience was this: our high school has grass, club has grass, and the field on which she suffered the injury was grass. Certainly turf could be a factor, and I bet someone somewhere will do a study on this someday.

Back when my kid was U13 or so, we really did not like playing Augusta. The teams were fine, however they had a couple of parents that constantly told their players to “play rough.” Just the way they said it.....really grated on our nerves. I am sure they meant just play physical, and their players were not dirty. Something about the way those parents drew out those words....”Plaaaaayyyyyy rooouuuggggh.”
We had parents of our own team we had to quiet a few times, so I am sure there were teams that did not like to play us either.

I could go for this. There is no worse way to lose a game than in kicks. At least with the old MLS/NASL way, there is more skill required to score.

We played at Mt Carmel, those fields were just as bad. The grass somehow was high and slow, and there was standing water and mud in front of one of the goals we played on. Asked the refs to do something about it and they said there was no sand, no rake, nothing, and if we didn't think it was safe to play we could opt out...gee thanks. The only thing the refs could do is declare the field unplayable, thus no game. It is not their responsibility to fix the fields. A small repair of a goal net is about the limit of what the ref can and should do. I guess they can talk to their assignor, however I would imagine the assignor was already aware of the field conditions.

Why was no card given for illegal substitution? Here is what I think: Only players, subs, substituted players, and team officials may be cautioned or sent off from a match. Since this guy from DC was not on the official team sheet for the match, he does not fit in any of those categories. I suspect there will be some instruction from PRO and MLS to the officials and teams regarding this type situation.

Well didn’t take long, not even a month into the season. Players from AFU’s ECNL have left to go join Lanier and their MLS league teams. Yes players who played in the Concorde tournament and ECNL friendlies literally left their teams mid week for new ones. All without AFU approval because they can with both leagues operating separately. Get your popcorn ready, it’s going to get interesting! Don’t players/families have to sign and commit to paying fees for a full year? How are these folks able to get out of that commitment? Is it as simple as just refusing to pay the required fees?

That’s per ESPN and SI. If college football cancels, does that likely mean high school football cancels? If so and then all fall high school sports likely follow, will club sports just move forward or feel pressure to shut down like they did in the spring? I think you pose a couple of good questions, and I do not have an answer. My guess is if college football cancels for this Fall, we will see a good amount of pressure to pretty much cancel everything else for the Fall. Again, just a guess on my end.

Here is what I find interesting about the mask debate: I have seen my doctor a couple of times recently for some routine stuff. When I specifically asked him his thoughts about masks, he told me there is no need to wear one at all. Nobody in the office was wearing one-they were around-just not covering mouths and noses. Those were for severely ill patients. You may want to change doctors.. just saying. Or maybe, just maybe, my doctor recognizes that where I live, which is a pretty rural environment, there is really no evidence to support a mask will protect me. And he recognizes I am not a threat to anyone else. He graduated medical school. He is privy to the latest research and information. Maybe I will trust his judgement.

Like I’ve said before the people that seem to want to get back to “normal” the most desperately are the same ones not wearing masks. The question I ask people all of the time is “what’s the downside of putting a mask on when your inside a business?” Still waiting for an adequate answer....
