WESTON, FLA. (WSVN) - - The family of a 14-year-old boy has filed a civil lawsuit after, they said, several players on his Weston soccer team sexually assaulted him during a recent trip to Colombia.
Weston FC is known as one of the most highly regarded soccer clubs in the country, but now it has been hit by this lawsuit after, the alleged victim said, his own teammates sodomized him while on a team trip.
Andy Yaffa, the teen’s attorney, spoke to 7News on Monday.
“Some older kids apparently decided to put the younger kids through some kind of hazing ritual,” he said.
Speaking with 7News Monday night, the concerned mother of another Weston FC member said the alleged incident left her disturbed.
“It was a silent culture. They didn’t talk, period,” said the mother, who asked not to be identified.
Several teams from Weston FC were staying at Hotel Lagoon in Medellín for a soccer tournament in late January.

They let their U14 take a trip to Medellin, Columbia?!? Its Colombia, not Columbia 😉 From the article: The attorney said the teen’s alleged attackers are between the ages of 15 and 20. BSO officials said the teen’s family does not want to pursue criminal charges to avoid excess strain on the family but are going ahead with the civil suit. So they care more about the $$ than justice? wsvn.com/news/local/in-lawsuit-weston-teen-soccer-player-accuses-teammates-of-sexual-assault/

It could be that they don't want to force the 13 y.o. to have to get on a stand and be grilled by lawyers, in front of a jury and courtroom, about being sodomized. He is likely to have to give a deposition at a minimum in the civil case and if the case goes to trial, he will also have to testify at trial. So in the civil case, he may have to testify twice as opposed to once in a criminal trial.

It is SOOOOO much worse. The coach did not take the kid to a hospital in Colombia. Also, police was not involved in the matter in Colombia and the culpable boys were sent back on a plane home to the states. So when the parents when to have the kids arrested they couldn’t be arrested in the US because the crime was not committed here and they couldn’t be brought up on charges in Colombia because it was not reported to police and there was no evidence. The family was only able to sue financially and go through fysa to have sanctions brought up against the club. This is the only kind of Justice they can get for their son. I say sue the hell out of them. And yes 14 year olds and younger travel internationally with that club.

Depositions are done with no audience, just the lawyers, videographer and stenographer. They may also elect to just play the deposition in court or have an actor read the deposition. This is done sometimes when someone is not available or they believe it is too traumatic.

It never ceases to amaze me how folks in charge(in this case the coach) can't take a moment and think. What if that was my son, my brother, hell myself. Hopefully he's never put in charge of kids again for in my opinion working to insulate and protect the wrong victim...

Did some digging and found out that the "coach" involved is in fact currently in charge of young men at Inter Miami CF. In other unrelated news, Inter Miami or Weston 2.0 as they are known in the Miami area will be town this weekend to taken on the AU 15s, 17s and 19s...

Have the parents or anyone who was close to this situation not contacted uscenterforsafesport.org/ if not, they need to do it today so this coach will no longer be allowed around children.

Me thinks I should share that this same coach allowed his goalie to pee in the box during the game against AU
