Good luck to all! Unfortunately, the Concorde SCCL 06 girls that won the Regional Cup and were offered a spot to go to National Cup won't be attending or there would be yet another Ga team representing as well.
Ga soccer is strong!

Ga soccer is strong! Why are they not going? This is not a criticism. I am just curious. I know other teams that qualified for certain tournaments in the past that chose not to go, but I don't know why either. Cost? Bad timing? Too much team turnover? I ask because it seems like things could be done to make attendance better at events like this.

We are not going because we had 13 rostered and we lost more then 50% of our girls because they moved up to ECNL

My player is there, but the team had a slot based on regular season results, so we've been planning for months. Trying to pull off that trip a few weeks after regionals - flights are full, hotels are booked, cars are scarce, players have other plans. Our team (one of the older ones) struggled to fill a roster. Several players will literally meet for the first time tonight in the hotel lobby... We were offered a spot at regionals last year (based on state cup performance) but declined because families were ready for vacation...

Cost is a big issue . We won regionals to advance. And had to make a decision to attend knowing cost to attend would be at least $1000 per player. Our team is not a wealthy team.
We made the decision to go with hopes of fundraising $5000. The boys and parents busted there butts and final fundraising number was $12,000.
In the end each. Players cost was $325, the cost of their air fare. Everything else... hotel, rental vehicles, two outings (would be a shame to come out here and only play soccer games), and meals.
The. Norcross. Community, friends and family really stepped up. Would not be here without them. Slightly disappointed that the club contributed $0 and really not much help planning the trip.

Congratulations to you all and the community for thinking outside of box. We want the teams to earn their way, but when they do the resources must be there to support them. Good luck.

TH 00/01 SCCL girls lost 2-0 in OT to FC Stars ECNL Composite. Strong game, just ran out of gas at the end. Second goal came as TH was pushed up hard looking to equalize in 2nd OT period. Great run for the girls.

Back from Denver and unwinding before hitting the sack.
First it was pretty cool to be out there, even though we feel we underperformed. Venue was great with Rapids Stadium right there, but the grass field we played on were long and ball moved slow. Weather was crazier than GA. High 90's first day. Second day game was interupted by lightening for about an hour and a half. Third day was cooler but still felt hot.
For 05 Norcross Boys:
First game against GPS Buffalo lost 2-1 off of goals from two mistakes. Outplayed them but they won the game. Should have been 2-2 but had a free kick header taken off of the board on an offsides. Could not tell at the game if an accurate call but looking at video, the free kick landed in front of the goal keeper without touching anyone. No offsides when ball was served, and player that headed it in made a circle run and was 10 ft onside when ball headed in. Still would have only been a tie with the goal.
Second game was 1-1 tie. Completely controlled the game but their goal keeper made several great saves. Keeper was short but could cover the goal. Offense had its chances but just never finished.
Third game against the eventual champion, DOXA out of New York finished 3-1. Wasn't close. If Norcross 05's want to compete for a Championship this game was a good one to show how much work needs to be done. DOXA played faster, was more technical and every touch seemed to be contested.
The three teams they played all made the semi finals. Should have gone 2-1, but did not take care of business. Offense just never clicked, scoring only two goals. Still had a good season finishing 35-7-4, got to experience Nationals, and win Southeast regional. With a new coach in the Fall and a couple of new players it will be interesting to see if they can put it together to make a run next year.
Also got to watch the third game for the 03 Girls (6-0 win) and the Championship game (3-1 win). The 6-0 win was boring and seemed like a very slow game. Championship game was completely different. Think they played GA Rush Hawaii. Fast paced game with lots of action and good soccer. Girls really brought it and Sergio did a great job guiding them. After watching them get their trophy, Sergio actually came over and said a few words to the team which was a class act thing to do.

Nothing against the coach that took the team to Denver, but I know you guys lost the coach that got them into the playoffs. Question is, do you think the boys would have at least played better if they had him and his intimate knowledge of the team along with their strengths n weaknesses?
