Given the MLS game last night where once again AU beat down the mighty Orlando city, I figured I'd compare the 2 MLS academies to both UFA and Concorde. Different goals between the academies, but somewhat of shared player pool with Orlando being the outlier, but still starting to attract GA players. Interesting - Overall summing the u15, u17 and u19 points per game (ppg), Orlando City has the highest ppg. If you just look at the u15s and u17s combined then UFA has the highest ppg. As expected if you combine just the u17s and u19s then Orlando city has the highest ppg with UFA 2nd, just barely above AU. Concorde makes the run of the century, yet consistently comes in 4th in all the summaries. Clearly their are some outliers -- both high and low. For example -- UFAs u17s ppg of 2.28 is the highest and Concorde's u19s ppg of 1 is the lowest. Summary table of Points per Game (ppg) for the 2018-2019 season Club | U15 | U17 | U19 | Totals | Total U15 & U17 | Total U17 & U19 | Atlanta United | 1.78 | 1.6 | 1.88 | 5.26 | 3.38 | 3.48 | Concorde | 1.57 | 1.64 | 1 | 4.21 | 3.21 | 2.64 | UFA | 1.26 | 2.28 | 1.21 | 4.75 | 3.54 | 3.49 | | | | | | | | Orlando City | 1.5 | 1.96 | 2.2 | 5.66 | 3.46 | 4.16 |

Interesting stats... what conclusions can be drawn from this? Something along the lines of "any given Sunday" or "stats lie"? If anyone had seen this chart, would they have bet on Concorde u17 to advance to the Finals ? Probably not...

I can speak first hand that AU is a player focused environment. NOT team. Lots of players playing up and a different mix of players almost every game. Tony's mission is to find 2x home growns a year. They system is built around that. Not to win Cups/Championships.

I'm gonna just throw this out there. TA brought down his homegrown and everyone else to compete for championships his first two years so that throws a monkey wrench into what you have posted. The first two years, he brought back down the players that were playing up to try and win the u16/17 championship.
I agree with him, he should of played his players age appropriate and win as many championships as possible to make sure AU was legit.

Thats what pretty much sealed the deal with Atlanta United so he could get the job. great launching pad for Atlanta United.
He is in the "player" business. He keeps his job if he produces quality players not teams.
They will sell you if youre worth it. They have to recoup costs by creating "home grown" players and quality sellable players. AU owns its players.

When they lose they don’t care about winning! It had to kill Tony this year watching UFA be better than his team and trust me he knew UFA was better. Then Concorde making that run I’m sure hurt also. I still don’t believe in the USL league and question the competition level for most the league. Too much disparity - some teams field 17 year olds while others are playing 100% to win. I don’t watch much men’s college soccer but I’m sure there are many players better currently in college then every homegrown we have signed to date — this is given where the homegrowns are now vs when they signed.

No dog in this, guessing you do not like au, Tony or both? Asking for a friend

Nope -- no issues with Tony, known him for years and probably the best coach in the city if not the south east. Training sessions are unparalleled, hard, diligent, and have a purpose. I'm definitely partial to the little guy, the local clubs, but season ticket holder and have many friends kids at AU. AU is a special place.
Just making a point -- when they win, its a huge deal. What they did in year 1 is/was insane -- win the u18 regular season and then win the u17 playoffs.
I'm just one to allow patience, allow kids to grow and mature as both an intellectual and soccer player. Declaring 15 years the next great fredy adu helps nobody. The college game needs to change for sure and its clearly not perfect, but some, most players need that time to allow their bodies to grow and mature, and granted the fall college season is majorally compressed and that needs to be fixed, we are just to eager to dismiss college talent.
AU is investing millions of dollars into their academy annually - they have changed the landscape of youth soccer greatly in the south. Atlanta has shown we could support multiple fully funded academies, that's what I'm advocate for -- true local competition for players and on the field -- local clubs need to have an incentive to invest in youth talent as well -- right now there is none.

Deedson can play -- kid is a special watch for sure. Great news and congrats to both him and KSA.
KSA right now seems to really rolling and putting together some strong teams in other age groups as well. ( lets not turn this thread into a ksa bashing session --)
