In response to the "any reports from the girls NTC Post"
It was an uneventful night. We had many of the same CF and TH players mixed in with a few from UFA and a couple new players from AFU and none from GSA. There was an own goal, a lot of defensive mistakes and girls that looked like fish out of water. Some of the new faces did not do well at all and the directors of these clubs really need to do a better job at evaluating who they are sending over. No wonder those clubs don't have a bigger presence at NTC. At one point I felt bad for one of the players because she could barely dribble the ball out of the box and it caused a goal. The look on that goalie's face was beyond priceless.
No one really stood out - not even my player so I'm being fair. it wasn't a great practice but I wonder if it had something to do with the fact that the players found out that a few had already been called up to the national team pool and were wondering why are they even wasting their time

I think it's probably more that they were a group of girls who don't usually play together, and they were trying to impress coaches with their individual skill rather than play as a team and try to win a game - and that they were playing a boys team who regularly plays together (they did play an 06 DA Boys team, correct?)

Umm. It may be a good idea to clarify the discussion. The girls 2006 group was separate from the girls 2005 group.
For the most part the 2006 group was newly formed. After warming up the 2006 group played against a 2007 NASA boys DA team. I THINK TH was most represented club but a formal list that was originally sent was updated and not sent to all. It was cool seeing the girls come together and play. Overall good day for most of the girls!!!

These are primarily DOC submissions at least the first year. Some DOC's have said they take it literally and only send players they truly think have potential to be on the national team. Other DOC's seem to send their entire top team. And I'm sure the smaller clubs aren't even notified about them at all. I guess that's the subjective nature of talent identification.

Our girls were definitely a bit flat last night and it had nothing to do with playing against girls from different clubs because this is not the first time this group has been together. Most of them have been playing with each other since the ODP days and whatever was going on, it was noticeable but it wasn't anything completely out of sorts, maybe they were just tired or the fact that a lot of our girls were being played out of position. Not sure that I would agree that it had anything to do with the announcement of the call ups to the National pool but then again, these are 13/14 year old girls and it could very well get into their heads.... afterall, the end game of NTC is to get into that pool. What I would agree with is that the new girls that were added to this round of training did not have the skill level of players you typically see on a top team. It was pretty evident and it made me wonder why their club would recommend them, knowing that its their reputation on the line. The selection process has always baffled me and in some instances, its clear that someone is pushing for them to go and they weren't scouted....no way Jose. Best of luck of those young ladies who got the call as it would be a good experience for them and continue to encourage those who get to go back to NTC in the future (afterall...there will be 4 new spots open)

Just curious, are the rosters available online?

Our DOC recommended our player the first year and he made it clear that it was up to her to keep her spot and she has been going ever since. What ticks me off is when NTC cuts a girl and the parent gets in a tizzy and the DOC has to push for them to go back the next time.

Just curious, are the rosters available online? No. Never have been. You would only know if your player was selected... Thats my perspective. Maybe someone has a different perspective.

And as you mentioned, a lot of girls end up having to play out of position because most of them are center mids and/or forwards. And a lot of players who are used to having to do a lot of the work on their team, and they likely get frustrated when they don't get the ball or get to do as much as they are used to. You said there were 4 call-ups? Do you know who? Initials/club? I think I know 2 of them.

From my understanding, there are 4 05 players that were called up. Two from TH and two from CF. It sounds as if one of them never even attended an NTC training session so there's a bit of controversy surrounding the selection process. The top two 05 players from each club was expected to go into the pool but the secondary selections are very questionable amongst parents and some coaches.

That's interesting. Pretty much all of TH top team has been invited to NTC's by now. Someone go ahead and share the initials. Or I guess it will be public soon enough.

a few comments in no specific order about the 05 girls ID session and this thread
1. the 05 girls have played this particular 06 boys DA team before (this past spring) and beaten them. the boys definitely improved. they denied space and time all over the field and the girls struggled in every phase of the game.
2. it's positive for new girls (sometimes from different clubs) to attend the ID sessions
3. it's positive for all girls from the ATL ID session for a set of players to be called into the YNT camp. those girls will still attend upcoming ATL ID sessions in the spring. there aren't 3 (or 4) 'open spots.'
4. girls get invitation to YNT camps because of play in playoffs, showcases, regular season games and ID sessions. so it might be unusual, but not without precedent, for a player to be selected who hadn't attended an ID session.
5. parents and coaches may react negatively to rumors of girls in/out of YNT camp. the truth is these girls all work hard, and this is just the first of many opportunities. these YNT camp lists change over the years, for a given age group. best of luck to the girls invited.

If I could like this post 1000 times I would! Very well said! I especially like that you gave ALL of the girls credit for the hard work put in to even be at NTC at all! In this hypercompetitive youth soccer landscape too many people trash on the girls that they think are not good enough (I myself have been guilty of this and get upset at myself when I am). We need to be more gracious and you were! Kudos!
