Why do they not have lights at Metro North & B'head? Additionally, why the horrible parking lot conditions at both locations? Such a great soccer club but seems to be lacking in facilities.... ??

It’s a residential area that won’t allow stadium type lights.
Do you seriously think those East Cobb snobs would let their property values go down with bright lights and that type of complex in their backyard?

They have tried repeatedly to have lights at metro but the county has blocked it due to an uproar from neighbors.

That makes sense about the lights.
What about the parking lots? Bhead is a dust bowl & metro is Rocks. I think bhead is flood plain so maybe that limits what they can do there but still, it's bad.
Except for the parking I think TH is a great club

Again East Cobb won’t let them do certain things due to zoning. Okay, I’m a Space Cadet right now so I’m lost on “Bhead”, what’s that? Duhhh! 🤦🏻♂️ You’re calling Tophat, Buckhead. I’ve always just known it as Tophat Fields.

Unlock most of the other Soccer parks in Atlanta that are actually City or County owned. Fowler, Mudcreek and countless others are built, owned and managed by public municipalities that have unlimited resources to use bonds to pay for public parks.

Since both locations are privately owned, I figured that would give them more options related to parking lot. Asphalt is about $3/sq ft so looking at top at fields in Buckhead, that would be a lot of money. Don't know why they wouldn't put something down besides dirt that's there though. I'm there regularly with my Academy kids practicing and it's amazing how dirty and dusty that place is. I have a leak in one of my tires due the rocks at metro I might start a poll asking people if they have an extra car they use just for soccer :-)

Our nanny has never complained about the parking lot at Tophat. She says the Range Rover handles the gravel just fine. Never noticed the dust as our staff details the fleet twice a week.

This gave me a good chuckle. In one post we have kids practicing in a parking lot and another post complaining about dust getting on their cars as their kids practice on turf/well manicured fields. The above post was facetious.
The TH Buckhead fields we have been to were good, but not perfect (nor are the porta-potties). Much better facilities around town. Plus TH has Franklin Gateway, which I guess is where their top-level teams typically practice (which I gather is owned by the city of Marietta).
Not to start a flame war in this thread, but the real difference here (as I see it) is that one club plays by city/county rules and the other doesn't want to be burdened with this.

With the snorkel package, the Range Rover can handle 3 feet of water, so the flood plain has never kept us from practice or games.

I think the overall posts about NTH parking and this goes for Concorde as well is to make a point that the "haves" of Atlanta metro soccer seem to avoid spending money on things like parking. IMO lights is a different story because that really affects practice times etc. Overall Tophat appears to have made their decisions to merge with NASA in part for the fields. Parking is an issue IMO (jokes aside) because the gravel lots can be problematic for some cars. It is also uncomfortable and dangerous for some people to walk on. One of my kids' grandparents (who is not that old and otherwise healthy and active) has trouble walking on these lots due to neuropathy. Kids in cleats also are at risk of rolling their ankles. If you are going to have a gravel lot (a bit ridiculous IMO for a club with lots of money) then at least maintain them so they aren't a health hazard for players and families (and cars). Frankly I would rather these clubs have a grass parking lot than a gravel one with huge potholes.
At least NTH fields are generally well maintained (even the grass ones) and are a playable surface. The club does have many fields that are very nice. Concorde fields are generally a disgrace.

Its kinda funny to me that the 2 clubs with (I assume) the most cash in the bank seem to spend the least on amenities at their facilities.

NASATophat does not have Franklin Gateway. It is owned by the City of Marietta and rented out to both NTH and SSA plus multiple lacrosse leagues. They just have the extra money to pay the extra expensive rental fees.

I believe SHP is privately owned correct?

Its owned by the city of Duluth. All AFU fields are city or county owned.
...with the exception of Pinecrest Academy in Forsyth (new this year). I am guessing negotiations with the new administration at Notre Dame Academy didn't go well before the fall.

Doesn't make sense why they both couldn't get it worked out. First Bell Memorial Park and now Pinecrest Academy, interesting those are both located in the middle of UFA Forsyth.

Scott Hudgins Park is owned by the State of GA and the Dept of Natural Resources. The land is leased to the city of Duluth for recreation uses that will not negatively affect the Chattahoochee River next to it. So paving the parking lot was okay, but installing lights, turf fields or changing the landscape are no no’s.
The school next door is Notre Dame Academy, AFU only uses their turf stadium during tryouts or when the school isn’t using it. Pinecrest Academy is in Cumming near South Forsyth HS. Their Soccer Head Coach, Dom Martelli, is a higher up at AFU so they’ve built a relationship to secure more fields and expand into Forsyth County.
