Population Nashville, TN metro area 1.7 million. Population metro Atlanta, GA 5.9 million. Appears like Atlanta can support something like this as well (another free academy).

Atlanta already has something like this. Isn't that what Atlanta United has? Nashville has a professional soccer team coming to MLS so this is just feeding off of that. I would not be surprised that MLS will mandate all new team to the MLS have an Academy program and make the current teams that don't have an Academy create one in the next 2-3 years. This would allow them to get out of DA and create their own league. We don't have enough leagues yet so this would help. LOL

MLS academies will not do their own league. Travel too costly across all age groups for the meager returns. They’ll settle into the tiered DA system.

Based on population Atlanta could support 2 programs.

They will not go the way of their own exclusive league. The goal was to have regional type play(DA Cup) along with regular local play. It would give the MLS multiple avenues to have their teams make the playoffs and qualify for the post season(I know, unfair). Even though MLS clubs have the money, it is not practical to fly across the country to play other MLS clubs. There has been talk of mini-showcase games. This would be something in the format of the SCL-P/DPL format. Club A, B, C, D, E, would all fly to one location(Club A) and they would round robin play each other. It would help with giving their teams an opportunity to play teams they wouldn't normally play during the regular season, showcase or even post season. AU was part of the pilot that did this last year(LAFC, NYCFC, Sporting KC, etc.) The MLS saw an opportunity to wrangle and wrestle back more power from the federation and jumped on it with the smoke screen of being unhappy and wanting to leave to make their own league. Prior to this, all MLS clubs had to field or attempt to field an academy. With that, they fell under the same rules as the other non-mls DA clubs. They had to get permission to do anything outside of that, other than the GA Cup. With this new arrangement, clubs can take their players overseas, more easily move DA games if they can work out the location and time changes and roster kids en mass on multiple age groups or multiple kids within on team(think current 2003s/2004s for AU).

The cup is a step in the right direction, but the MLS clubs can finish top 4, while the pions have to win their group.....
In general --- less rules and restrictions is better, let the clubs figure out how manage their rosters and players.

I know the girls side best and one of the major reasons for cup was to have more meaningful games. IE games against better competition more often. So far it appears to be working on the girls side although its early.

This team is the Academy team for the new MLS pro team Nashville, SC and begin play next year 2020. The tryouts for the U12s are this early on the 25th of this month, because of the U12 GA Cup finals being held November 29th thru the 1st of December(at the AU Training Grounds); The real tryouts for the other age groups, don't occur till next year...

Will be interesting to see how this plays out as it'll be major competition to TSC (Tennessee Soccer Club) which just recently made a move to roll up Murfeesboro and Nashville FC clubs under TSC. I'm guessing there are enough players in the city for both clubs to co-exist with quality clubs.
Just hope it doesn't turn into a debacle like what happened in Chattanooga when their new USL team Red Wolves came in an splintered an already small player pool. Based on all reports I've heard the only thing that has come out of the Red Wolves/Chattanooga FC split is a split soccer community which isn't good.

Yea, I remember being confused and always thinking Nashville FC and Nashville SC were the same entity.
Will be very very interesting to follow -- even more interesting is what division do they play in, not necessarily close to any other for alignment.
TSC historically has been good club.
