Congrats to the Atlanta United U17X team (made up of 03/04/05).
After a 4-0 win vs local team Concorde. They flew down to Medellin, Colombia to take on some of the best in Columbia.
Yesterday, they played Atletico Nacional and won 4-0!! Told that fans visibly shocked as this is one of the best in Colombia.
Next up tomorrow is Independiente Medellin. Good luck and #repATLUTD.

Good ole fashion A whooping for sure! So kidding but the transitive property of sports..... Concorde would have tied the Columbian team, great job concorde!!!
It's still crazy to me, not jealous, I think this is pretty amazing, but man, what do you think this trip costs -- close to $100,000??

It's still crazy to me, not jealous, I think this is pretty amazing, but man, what do you think this trip costs -- close to $100,000?? The best part, and this is the goal, is the parents didnt have to pay anything. The club pays the travel cost. So the cost wouldnt concern me. If my child was on the team, I would be excited about him getting a chance to test his skills against players in another country and also he is seeing a different part of the world...

Not sure on what the club paid. I'm sure it was a good bit. Maybe not six figures but a good bit.
The experience of playing for the 5 Stripes is hands down an honor. Develop, Measure, Grow

A lot less money than AB wasted on the Falcons this season.

Sadly not really since the U17 X team ebbs n flows based on how the lads play from the group of 2003s and 2004s and a few pull-ups from the 2005s. You can get a good idea of who went and who is playing by looking at the Game Report for their last game vs CF U17s [https://bit.ly/2MPUnUF] or if you're familiar with the lads, you can view the pics in this tweet -

Are AU academy players allowed to play pick up games at the training facility?

soccergurl- Sure look at SM post here
Soccerhouse- No, not that I know of. They train 5 days a week plus game/s weekends so they really want the boys to rest the body. (plus give us parents a needed break). If a team has a bye week then sometimes they will arrange a scrimmage but don't see any pickup games.
I'm sure some might play some indoor but why risk an injury/ starting spot.

I wonder if there is legal reasons as well not to allow it.
Seems we need more open play vs structure sessions.
9th Graders scrimmaging with 17 and 18 years olds etc. that was standard practice back in the 80s. No longer.

Are AU academy players allowed to play pick up games at the training facility? As far as I know, not during the season since their training schedule is pretty rigorous. However, in the offseason(summer) they let a chosen few do pick up games based on invites only.

I won't win any arguments, but we need to shift to a model where kids are playing in pick up games and encouraged to do so. Kids are playing because they want to, not because they have to.
If I was a coach, I'd arrange a session on weekend and let the kids know I'm going to be a few minutes late etc. Then I would actually never even show up, instead I'd go and just watch from a hidden location to see what the kids do. How do they react, what type of session do they run, do they scrimmage, or do they just goof off an bail and leave.
shirts vs skins, throw anything down as goals and just play. could you imagine these days if a club played shirts vs skins, somebody would probably be sent to jail. God for bid you show up at training not wearing a training shirt etc. Just freaking play!
did the AU 17s only play 2 games in South America? Seems a long way to go to just play 2 games? Am I missing something?

AU 15s, 17s, 19s at Orlando
15s : 2-0 AU win 17s : 0-1 AU loss 19s: 2-2 AU tie
Drama at the U17s game as a red card issued to AU player(not clear what for), two goals called back for AU with one of the goals taken back as a result of the confusion regarding free kicks and offensive players being in or around the wall. Ref made the right call but...
Side note and a wee bit late. Saw the post about the Inter Miami goalie taking a leak on the pitch during the game. Sadly, that is true. Player feigned injury, got the game stopped for what everyone thought was an injury that required the trainer's attention. In a coordinated move, all the goalie's teammates make a circle of trust around him and he purports to drop and pee inside the 6 yard box. They could have gotten away with it, had the trainer been within the circle as opposed to lingering around the 18 counting sheep. I give them kudos for the ingenuity though, however nasty it might have been..
