No. They are debating whether or not the lease of the land should be open up for competition.

"A 2018 referendum on whether to offer exclusive negotiating rights for the development site to Miami Freedom Park was approved by more than 60 percent of Miami voters."
Ah, still confusing. Is it public land then? Why would a company negotiate the rights rather than the city itself?

Is it public land then? Why would a company negotiate the rights rather than the city itself? The city is negotiating the deal but there’s not enough information in the draft agreement to make a decision on deal as of now (this is the vote for first resolution, i.e. proceed with deal or not to); second resolution is if there’s no signed agreement, then a vote on whether or not to decease negotiations and open lease for RFO bidding (which as u indicate, Miami voters already gave the city green light to negotiate deal with Beckham group).

First resolution did not pass, meaning the current draft agreement proposal was rejected (because it was incomplete); second passed in that they will continue to negotiate in good faith with Beckham group only. Next chance to vote on lease is set for December.

Honestly, Beckham and Co. are turning this whole enterprise into a laugh. How could the MLS agree to allow this project to go forward, without a solid plan(voted on and agreed to) in place to go forward. At this rate the current slew of Academy players will have graduated from college by the time the stadium is built. Wasn't he pseudo awarded a team back in 2007? That's a dozen years in already...

problem is the franchise is already probably quadrupled in value and they haven't even done anything yet. -- it's the ultimate pyramid scheme The entire thing has been a debacle.

Oh it absolutely has, I believe the MLS only got $25 for it. Might be the best $25 anyone ever paid for a major sports team. I think currently the cheapest valued MLS club are the Colorado Rapids and even they are worth $190 million and they have snow and don't have South Beach and Beckham calling...

Methinks this franchise will be sold to somebody like PHX before it actually comes to fruition.

I think Beckham has already sold his shares but is being kept on as the face of the franchise.
