Just a break from all the tryout rumors .
In no order , list your opinions as to the top three coaches in the Select age groups . For both sexes.
I was going to go through the list late tonight or tomorrow and compile a top three based on the names appearing most frequently . Kind of like a Power Ranking.
Criteria:
1. Either you’ve had/seen directly or heard from people you trust 2. Consider development , doing more with less, etc., not just a coach who recruits the best players and wins . 3. Top 3 girls side and Top 3 boys side.

Best how? Wins and losses? Development? Retention?
Interesting thought experiment.. but I suspect it's going to be 'who is my favorite coach who was also nice to my kid'

Good idea in theory but the best coaches are seldom the ones who actually make it on to the mentions in this forum.
For me, the best coaches are the ones who actually invest into their players, take time to develop them both on and off the field, set standards and don’t budge on those standards, teach the game to players rather than just giving the information to get through Saturday’s games with a win and lastly, someone who creates an actual positive relationship with the player, parent and family.
There are clearly only certain club communities on this forum as well, as some clubs parents just do not use this site. So again a lot of coaches will not even be mentioned and they are exceptionally good at their job but don’t wear the right badge.

This is for fun. of course it's not going to be accurate. That's the point-the opinion of the perople who DO frequent this site. It's not intended to be a scientific study.
As to how am I judging? Read point #2 above.
Also, sorry about the typo in the header. I was on my phone when I created it and didn't check my spelling:)

Juan Castillo of MAYS soccer. My daughter was fortunate enough to play for him for periodically for 2 years.
1) Saw that my daughter had some talent and moved her up 2 age groups to challenge her 2) Honest Coach not in it for him. When the time came, he came to me and told me it was time to move on to another club. Told us she reached the highest she could get at the club and needed a higher challenge 3) Took a small club with a lesser player pool to achieve great records as they moved up from Athena B to Athena A. Even challenged for Athena A title. 4) Took girls from low income families-to Upper Class and made them into a family that cared about each other on the field as well as off 5) Was able to get some low income family girls into college on scholarship for soccer through his connections 6) MOST IMPORTANT. Cared about the girls off the field more then on the field. Numerous times heard him say the girls are my family. His wife and him treated them that way.
During my coaching career he was always there to answer any of my question and address any concerns. He also does it for the love of the game not the money.
So I consider him one of the top coaches in Atlanta

For my player, Karl Hedley at GSA is hands down the best coach he's ever had. We were lucky to have Karl for 3 years, from U11 Academy (the year of the birth year changes which decimated our 2006 team) through U13 ECNL. He was invested in my son as a person as well as a player. Karl built up his confidence level and encouraged him so much. He was level headed with us about a possibility for the Atlanta United team (my son was invited to try out twice and didn't make it either time) and was positive about what that meant for my kid as a player, that is wasn't the end of the world, just a chance to see where he stands and ultimately use those experiences to become a better player. My family thinks the world of Coach Karl, both as a person and as a coach.

Definitely Ward Swain. Used to coach academy u9-u10 girls at NASA. For several years now has been doing pre-academy (u7-u8) At NTH. Focuses on fundamental skills. Makes it incredibly fun for the girls but can be appropriately tough on them too. He is a big kid too and is SO good with the girls. They come out of those pre-academy years with a great base of soccer skill and importantly, a love for the game. My girls have had several other excellent coaches but Ward is one of a kind.

I wholeheartedly agree. Our daughter wouldnt be the player she is without him. He understands what it takes to get to the best out of his teams and most of his players will walk through walls for him.

Good coach but how can you shame SSA unless you care to elaborate on the facts from both sides? Also a coach staying too many years with same team is not the best thing for the players. Time to move on. Give Ricky a chance to do his job and support him. He can do just as well or better.

He is a great coach! I’m talking about the girls academy as a whole. He has built a great pool of talent at SSA! I have never seen another coach better at getting a player to reach their full potential! I worry that there may be a mass exodus of younger players!

Hands down with no close second place is:
CAMPBELL CHAPMAN
NATIONAL TITLES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
Denny Jenkins...would be my distant second...don't think he still coaches club soccer...but he was great at developing young players
Mirza is also a really good coach...he is excellent at getting the most out of his players.

The best coach in metro Atlanta, just took a job at BUSA! Josh Hurst from SSA! Shame on SSA for letting him get away! I have to respectfully disagree. Josh Hurst is the rudest and most verbally abusive coach I have ever encountered and there are many other parents that would agree with me. It is one thing to yell and be hard on kids in a constructive way to push them to grow. It is another thing totally to attack kids on a very personal level and try and tear them down and humiliate them in front of their teammates and other parents.. I saw so many girls whose self-esteems were destroyed under his coaching and I know at least one girl who ended up in therapy over his abusive behavior. And these are not high school aged kids. I am talking 10, 11, 12 years old. He got reprimanded many times by SSA but they never did more than make him apologize to parents and kids because he was winning the club games. Shame on SSA for allowing that behavior to go on for so long. Maybe they finally had enough of it and fired him. Josh may win games but it is at a pretty high cost. He leaves all kinds of carnage in his wake. Parents stay away if you care anything about your kids self esteem. He is a nightmare and takes any and all fun out of the game for the kids. Although the soccer obsessed parents whose only focus is to win at all costs love him. But they are also the same parents bad mouthing other kids on the team behind their back during games. If that is your type of scene. Josh is your man. Vindictive too if you leave his team. He sabotaged the tryouts of the sibling of a player who left him
