Hands down with no close second place is: CAMPBELL CHAPMAN Denny Jenkins...would be my distant second...don't think he still coaches club soccer...but he was great at developing young players Mirza is also a really good coach...he is excellent at getting the most out of his players. Mirza gets the more out of his teams than any coach I've seen in Atlanta Ricky Clarke is a really good coach and good guy Campbell is very solid and honest - Is there another current coach in Atlanta with a National Title? Not sure

For my player, Karl Hedley at GSA is hands down the best coach he's ever had. We were lucky to have Karl for 3 years, from U11 Academy (the year of the birth year changes which decimated our 2006 team) through U13 ECNL. He was invested in my son as a person as well as a player. Karl built up his confidence level and encouraged him so much. He was level headed with us about a possibility for the Atlanta United team (my son was invited to try out twice and didn't make it either time) and was positive about what that meant for my kid as a player, that is wasn't the end of the world, just a chance to see where he stands and ultimately use those experiences to become a better player. My family thinks the world of Coach Karl, both as a person and as a coach. His dad is pretty good too. Mr. Southport FC Yes, his dad was both of my boys' first academy coach at U8 "Jr academy". Great and hilarious coach!

Not having a kid to play with him but having had kids playing that age group and multiple age groups, definitely think that MM would be in the top tier of those coaches. I think he has fashion for the game and he really gets a lot out of his players.
I also think that when he came in, Atlanta fire was going through a lot of transition and though there was some bumps in the road, I think he brought a bit of respectability to the program and at least got them organized.

Forgot to add though I would probably give the best coach or coaches awards to Robin Dixon, Tony Annan and Nuno. I think with all the years that my kids have been involved, those three have been constants as to top teams who perform and players that move on to ice collegiate level and many going off to professional careers.
again, bit of an old school person with three kids that came through the pipeline but those are my three. There are a few more including some that have been listed that I think are really good but I'm defaulting to I guess you would call the old school crew.

I do have a niece that's beginning to start her academy journey so any ideas who would be the best Coaches on the female side of the game that would be a good destination for in the future?

Not a female coach but if they are just starting out. Go to UFA. Gil Jean-Baptiste has the young ones at UFA and he is amazing with them. Best female coach is Nadine but she coaches older girls.

Ryan Austin. Former CF North now NASA 05/06 coach. Players coach. Rock sold conditioning. Gets the most out of player. Son loves him AU loves to take his players. Hmmm...how many of his players of have gone to AU ? Even though I’m not really sure how that qualifies him as a good coach.

Just a break from all the tryout rumors . In no order , list your opinions as to the top three coaches in the Select age groups . For both sexes. I was going to go through the list late tonight or tomorrow and compile a top three based on the names appearing most frequently . Kind of like a Power Ranking. Criteria: 1. Either you’ve had/seen directly or heard from people you trust 2. Consider development , doing more with less, etc., not just a coach who recruits the best players and wins . 3. Top 3 girls side and Top 3 boys side. Agree totally on Nadine. Ricky at SSA is also solid. This thread would likely have more activity if it was "Mediocre or Bad Coaches". We had one that almost caused my daughter to quit soccer because she started to completely dislike practices and games. Not sure of rules so I will not hijack this thread but as Seinfeld once said:

Age group and/or gender is a huge factor. As I agree that some of the coaches cited here are very good coaches, coaching a U17 DA Boys team and coaching a U10 Girls Academy team is completely different.

Bryan Waltenburg- Smyrna now UFA I believe Yes, still at UFA. “Coach Bryan is the best coach ever” says my son (currently U17) and his teammates. In just 5 days of last year’s pre-season camp, my son could not believe the communication the team was getting from Coach Bryan. They learned why they were doing every soccer drill & why it applies to game situations. He got more game strategy than all the previous coaches combined. Coach Bryan is a chatterbox and the players just soak it ALL up! The team was physically challenged to the max at all times! Everyone was treated the same and there were no special treatment players. The team bonded on the field and it spread to the parents as well. The players believed in Coach Bryan and it reflected in games. We won the division and got a playoff spot to the ENPL National playoffs. Unfortunately, as we all know, canceled. Coach Bryan is on a whole different level when it comes to coaching strategy and athleticism in this wonderful game. Did I mention during games if you aren’t in the game he’s coaching you on the bench as well as managing the players on the field, amazing talent Coach Bryan is. I honestly think some coaches and some DOC’s don’t know or don’t want to give out all the information they have to make their team better.

This is what coaches need to be! Communicate, communicate, communicate and educate, educate, educate. You are a teacher of the game when you are coach. TEACH your players! I have heard great things about coach Bryan! Glad that your kid had a special season and many more ahead of him I hope!

Never had a son play for Ryan Austin but being AU loves taking his players regardless of them being cut or not mean he is doing his job in promoting his kids to the next level which is what the coaches are supposed to do.
This is a great post and love it as stayed positive but diverse. Many coaches (good or bad) tend to get a bad wrap as much is on a personal level with our kids and how we see them grow. Yes, we all want to see promotion and advancement but it is a two way street and in many cases (included as to my middle son), the effort and focus outside the practice times was not there.

Furthermore, I think this topic can go many ways as many GREAT coaches come in different forms. We focus on those TOP level coaches which yes, they have earned the right to coach at that level at the level only the cream of the crop rise but there are some incredible coaches at the younger levels so I will add one which might not be on any ones radar as it involved my youngest who is not on the at the upper levels of player at the moment but with my three boys, has received some of the BEST coaching I have ever seen at an academy level:
Coach Siba, UFA
The man is incredibly committed and passionate for the sport. He coaches all the kids, not just the ones he feels are the betters ones and has made the whole group better from bottom to top. I would love to hear more stories about the grass roots folks that instill the love for the game.

Hey, I respect your choice and your opinion on Campbell, mine differs. But what National Title did he win? I was there a few years ago and his teams didn’t collect those accolades. Was it years ago? I know recently, Judson won for his team. Not starting anything, just asking.

GARVIN QUAMINA hands down!!!! He's a great trainer, great coach and he's HONEST. He'll actually give a kid a chance on a team that skill wise, may be better suited on a lesser level, but he gives them a chance. He's given full releases to players that wanted off his teams and never bad-mouthed them in the process. He's highly respected by college coaches and he puts over 95% of his players into college (At least 80% of that D1). I know of a few of the other coaches mentioned in this thread and your opinion is your opinion but I'll put Garvin up against anyone.
P.S. the GSA 04s that won nationals was coached by Judson Hamby when they actually won so unless Campbell won a natty somewhere else I'm not aware of him coaching a national championship team...But I could be wrong.
