Surprised the tryout fee didn't increase this year. I get it, its only $10 bucks and you get a free "t-shirt" but still seems odd to charge for tryouts.

2 new Concorde coaches (actually) announced: 07 & 08 Girls ECNL Premier Coach Scott Letts’ experience includes over 15 years as a NCAA D1 Assistant Coach/Head of Recruitment at Central Michigan University, Virginia Commonwealth University and Marshall University. He has a National USSF B License and NSCAA Premier License and coached with several youth clubs, including Richmond United ECNL program and most recently as Girls ECNL Director and Director of College with VDA. Coach Letts was also a member of the regional staff for Region One ODP. Coach Letts will be coaching Concorde Fire’s 2007 and 2008 Girls ECNL Premier teams. 05 & 07 Boys ECNL Premier Coach Kyle Gookins has coached at the collegiate, DA and ECNL levels over his career. Coach Gookins spent eight seasons at the University of Charlotte helping the 49ers to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, five conference championships and one NCAA College Cup Final Four. He also earned Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year at Stetson University. His youth coaching experience includes being a staff coach of the Rapids Development Academy and most recently as a coach with Charlotte Independence ECNL program. Coach Gookins has a US Soccer Federation A License. Coach Gookins will be coaching Concorde Fire’s 2005 and 2007 Boys ECNL Premier teams. Wasn’t there a poster asking about a Kyle at Concorde? Seems like there’s the answer.

AFU continues their game of chess adding the 4th tryout date. That 4th day of tryouts has been up on their page for a while. Not sure what I think of it. In some ways it may help their numbers if people are not happy with their options after their third day elsewhere. On the other hand if they don't give their OWN players a level until that last day it could screw thei= own people. I know people always say that you should know where you kids stand, but I don't trust anyone in this rat race. People tell you things then change their mind back and forth. You hear the old statement that if your kid starts they are safe. I don't know that that is true. Sometimes with the older kids things change between fall and tryouts. Multiple showcases were canceled this spring. When was the last time ECNL girls U15 and up played? Can you rely on your starts in the GA showcase for one weekend? Does that matter? I am not convinced

AFU continues their game of chess adding the 4th tryout date. Having a 4th day listed isn't anything new for AFU. I seem to recall them having it listed more often than not. However, it typically turns into a rain makeup day instead of a regular tryout day. Most other clubs list the first 3 days and mention the 4th day is for rain makeup, but for some reason AFU just lists all 4 days.

Call it what you want, it’s clearly being marketed as a “4th” day of tryouts for a reason.

If that's the case then my bad. I have only seen the dates listed as June 1st - June 4th. If they are stating the 5th is a rainout day, that would bleed into Saturday. Again, in the past I have seen them list 4 days, but it actually turns out to be 3. Maybe this year is different.

If I had to guess, this is an extension of the last 2 years where ECNL had a 4-day tryout that starts the day before state tryouts (and a tryout ID camp the sunday before). Since this year the day before is a holiday, they likely extended tryouts a day after.
This will likely be used for populating their Premier (4th) teams this year...and for picking up the stragglers GSA ECNL cuts on Thursday the 3rd after promising they had a spot on the ECNL team all week (we know of 2 06G this happened to).

I’ve talked to a lot of Concorde parents recently, a lot are unhappy
I’m sure 07’s will be tough to keep after their “mediocre season” as a parent described it

I think the 07 Platinum boys will rebound next year. This spring they beat NASA , UFA, and GSA (and also GSA tied them in another game on a great last second corner piece). Took way to long for the team to gel but all the games they lost 1-2 in the fall they were winning 2-1 in the spring. They are adding a whole lot more offense for next year.

I think the Spring results for that Concorde team don’t tell the full story. I know when they played UFA they had trap players that played the entire game and I heard it was the same against NASA and other teams. They won’t have that luxury going into next year.
