BAMA won the sec last night with a win over Florida. Florida tried to play soccer, just lost way to much. nobody is dangerous on that roster in the final 3rd. Bama was good last year, but nothing like they are this year. Team is dominant right now. very impressive team to watch, and growth from year to year. They are senior heavy and will return a good bit of the roster because of an additional covid year. They punish you on set pieces and corners. They possess and really use the entire field.
They should make a deep run into the tourney and were in a class of their own this year. that used to be florida. The SEC was Florida, then everyone else.
No reason Georgia can't take over that #1 spot, bring in some top local talent, add some transfers, recruit texas and California. done.

I was driving through the 75/85 downtown connector and spotted a vibrant 40ft billboard promoting UGA Women's Soccer with images of, I think the team captains. Refreshing to see the Georgia athletic dept putting such impactful resources behind the program and the women's game as a whole! Billboard was directly across from the GT arena in midtown as well, which was a nice touch geographically! Mentioned it to a friend and he noticed another billboard heading south on 75 in the KSU area. Love to see it! Word is the Coach had some "stipulations" before accepting the gig. One that he fought for includes the renovation of the stadium and facilities...

Julianne Leskaukas is dangerous in attacking third but appears to be the only one Florida has. Sarah Greiner, from GSA and formerly from AFU, is committed to Florida. She is a great attacking talent. UFA has a player going to Florida too that is a keeper (I think). Hard to know where recruiting sits with new coaches. Will their 2023 recruits still come and their commitment be honored at UF and Georgia?

I believe with a new Era getting started I believe you will start seeing a lot of Georgia girls staying home. Also with the coaching change from last year they might not honor their commits. I know one of the top strikers in Georgia was going to FSU does the UGA coach have some pull to keep her in state?

People give the college game crap, what I watched yesterday was some quality soccer in the SEC. When I say people, many blame the US's short comings on the college game and how our best goes to college. I still disagree, as I see so much quality in the college game.
UGA is light years beyond where they used to be. Team plays soccer now and actually looks coached. Yes - they are missing players at some key positions, where the talent isn't quite there, but have to be impressed of the direction of the program is headed. South Carolina is probably one of my least favorite schools in any sport, but have to give it to them, they play also. I personally don't hear much positive about the coach (arrogant, and heard doesn't communicate with some players etc) -- but she can clearly coach, team plays nicely. Cocks are missing that dynamic player besides Barry. Barry is 6'0 and can play, lacking pace in my opinion, but finds a way.
Vandy played lights out in the first half against Bama, then Bama, absolutely dominated them in the 2nd. Questionable call on a pk in the last 39 seconds, tough call, probably the right one. Bama plays with 4 in the back, at times its 2: Skorka and Reyes push forward like you wouldn't believe, at times Reyes is another attacking mid. Very Very difficult to deal with. Its going to take a team with a true dominant striker with pace to take them down in the ncaa's -- If you sit back against them, they will have their way. Riley parker and Riley Tanner are absolute studs. I think their coach struck gold this year, just came together with Felecia Knox leading the county in assists. They will keep a good chunck of this roster, but will lose some important pieces. Should be interesting.
I like what the SEC is doing, haven't seen the numbers in a while, but at one point, SEC womens soccer let the country in attendance. Probably still not a money revenue generating sport, but very impressive none the less.
still scared of the likes of ucla and unc -- depth, depth and depth.
I missed the double middle fingers in the duke/unc game, apparently happened between 2 former Georgia youth players if anyone can find a video -- red card for the duke player, yellow for the unc player -- heels won in pks.

Go Heels! They should have won that game 2 or 3-0. They stop their own momentum. They play around at the top of the box too much trying to find the perfect shot.
Compared to Notre Dame! Taking shots from 20 yards out and putting them on frame. Notre Dame was relentless and completely controlled the game from about 10 minutes in. They play with speed and don’t rely on booting the ball halfway up the pitch and chasing *cough* Duke *cough* Tough that they had to settle the score with PKs.
Love Anson but UNC is going to need to pick up the pace against FSU today as they held their own vs. a very competitive ND team.

Cocks took down the elephants -- could really screw Bama's chance at a 1 seed today for the ncaa bracket.
Bama had their chances - probably the best I've seen south carolina play - bama made a mistake and went to the ground defending a player around the 6 yard line, and south carolina spun her and scored.
goal from the cocks:
and then bama in the last minute of play:

Dawgs played brilliant for moments and should have gotten one in the first 5 min against the heels today. Besides a few opportunities and the goal not dangerous enough in the final third and too careless with the ball. After they scored to make it 3-1, they actually almost quickly got a 2nd.
Will say the dawgs left back has some pace. Izzy cox for the heels is a pour man’s Alex Morgan and just tries to run last defenders. The UGA left back wasn’t having any of it. Shut her down.
Talia Dellaperuta had a goal for the heels also.
UGA needs more depth and some more dynamic players on the ball. Besides the left back not a lot of pace either.

Dawgs tied bama last night. Yes, bama is not the same team they were last year. Honestly, not sure how they are maintaining the level they are playing at. Obviously a well coached team. Felicia Knox is incredible in the middle.
Back to the dawgs -- they gave up a terrible goal on a quick restart last night. a few minutes later found the equalizer. To be fair -- they were not good in the first half, out of sorts, looked slow, too many careless giveaways, playing long balls for no reason.
2nd half was a different game. They controlled the tempo and dictated the game. Had much better chances and probably should have had a 2nd goal. Still made some careless errors, but much more deliberate with their passes and I really liked how a few of there players would get the ball at their feet and attack the space in front of them.
if and when Croix is cleared to play -- not sure her status, this team will be a force. She will change their dynamic greatly. Like the young players they have, and you can see their keeper getting better with each game. Local players should be looking at UGA for sure.. and bama... and arkansas.... and florida.... and .....

Excited to witness the growth of the UGA program and keeping more talent in state! Should finish top 3-4 in conference but Florida appears to be a surprise rebuilding threat this season.
Side note: anyone catch the TCU vs BYU match last night. It aired live on ESPNU so on demanding it shouldn’t be hard. Instant classic and potential game of the year. Incredibly, well played match on both sides and hands down, BYU has created an environment unmatched in women’s college soccer.

They don't seem to be having much luck with the top talent in the 2025 class so far. Three of the top players from Georgia / Metro Atlanta are heading out of state...Clemson, Alabama & FSU.

Saw last 30+ of BYU v TCU live and it was a well played game on both sides. UGA looks better and cleaner, more thoughtful than any time I have ever seen them (first time live was about 10 yrs ago). Florida is much improved but still needs to improve defensively. They do look better, not the the Florida of the last 5 years. We will see if they can win some close games, last year they lost 8 games by a single goal. I like colleges having no OT. It means they play smarter, more professional games and they are protecting the players at the same time.

Yea Florida is close, still need another season to bring back in some top talent. They dominated the league for decades. Should be a very interesting league this year - Bama, south carolina, and Arkansas to battle for the top spot. If Croix plays, UGA will be in that mix. The sec needs to get rid of east/west for soccer, it's so strange to have league games not count towards the standings.
