Does anyone know Kevin Kratz? It was announced today that he's the new Santos DOC. Yes. He’s a great guy, and I’ve heard a good coach.

Does anyone know Kevin Kratz? It was announced today that he's the new Santos DOC. You must be new to Atlanta to not know who he is. Kevin is a great person and wonderful coach. Most boys who have had him loved him. Atlanta United lost their best coach, who just took them to the u16 MLS Cup title. Great for Santos.

Does anyone know Kevin Kratz? It was announced today that he's the new Santos DOC. Hey played for Atlanta United (first team) in addition to playing in multiple levels of the Bundesliga. He is/was the only person at AU on the Academy Coaching staff with real experience playing pro. The lads absolutely loved playing for and being coached by him. His coaching philosophy is firmly rooted in the belief of nurturing and "developing" players, prioritizing skill and technique over raw athleticism and picking the biggest and fastest athletes. He was very vocal about some of the "decisions" being made by AU in many facets of the game. At one point in time, he was so frustrated he was going to leave and do something else. They tried to appease him by making him an assistant to the current and lesser U17 coach. The Santos gig is perfect for him. He feels they do things right at Roswell and looks forward to building on that legacy to develop true players. Wishing him all the luck!!!

Hopefully, they hire a known local "pro" who's journey and experience, could help elevate the program... Sounds like you know, all-knowing, all-seeing FG! Here you go... www.roswellsoccerclub.com/

This sounds great for RSC. I have heard from other parents whose kids have done personal training with him that he's an excellent coach, and being a former European and MLS pro is a nice perk. Can this elevate RSC in any practical way?

Can this elevate RSC in any practical way? He can start with clearing out the 'good 'ol boys'. Coaching recruitment has been non-existent for the past 3 years (maybe more) and they've driven away some pretty good coaches.

Maybe condescending? Nah, that's just my negative side seeing your backhand comment. That's what my wife would say. I can certainly GOOGLE as well as anyone and find his bio. It was actually an open ended question to get as many people to offer their personal opinion and experience with him. I can't search for that . . . only on this forum . . . right flix?

I have no knowledge of RSC other than being a parent from opposing teams. They had several players move over last year to NASA who were very good and took ECNL spots. I'm just curious if having a well-known quantity at DOC does anything to help elevate the club so players stay there? Is there a path to the higher leagues now?

Some Santos coaches have even told parents that if they want to have their kid play past U18, go to another club like UFA, CFA, and TH etc (wow, totally awesome bit of advice ) Yes they've had many good players leave Santos in recent years . . . because of coaching changes and club management decisions. Several of those players are now ECNL & GA starting players (on the girls side at least).

While I'm sure coaching changes and club management decisions play into parents' decisions to move their kids, I assumed the driving factor was access to higher level leagues for their kids. RSC only has SCCL at the Select ages. Would having Kratz leading the club have any impact on parents keeping their kids there if the path to ECNL/GA or whatever still doesn't exist?

My kid had Kevin as a coach at one point. I am not going to go back and forth over minor things on this forum with strangers anymore, it’s really not worth my time. The rest of your post made no sense.

No group of coaches is going to universally love the new boss - and they have/had lots of good coaches through the years. I was a board member for a spell immediately after MF was hired. At the time (~12ish years ago) there was no mistaking the fact that the city runs the club. Ambition was squashed. Attempts to do things different were met with an immovable wall of resistance. Things change though.
RSC has always seen older players depart to top teams (DA, ECNL, etc). The only negative EVER has been “small club” and “city club”. They own tons of fields, mostly artificial turf now and many of those have even been recently re-surfaced.
I hope Kevin did a lot of due diligence. Would love to see RSC thrive in the soup sandwich that is Atlanta club soccer.

I guess my question is what does "thriving" look like? Retaining players at the Select levels? Having great u12 teams and sending as many players to ATL United/ECNL/GA/MLS Next clubs? I like the idea of a smaller club keeping teams together, but it doesn't seem realistic if they don't compete in the higher level leagues.

The question is how you define "thriving". Having been through moving from a smaller club during academy playing C1 and 2 to a big 5 ECNL, there is no comparison with players overall. The top players at the small clubs know by u13 itis time to go as the big clubs draw the most attention from the next level including from colleges. This doesnt mean a smaller club can't provide a positive soccer and team experience but likely not providing opportunities beyond club.

Too bad USSF capitulates to MLS on international solidarity and training compensation statutes - otherwise a small club with a consistently good youth academy would be well compensated for training players that go on to opportunities at higher levels. But hey. MLS looks out for itself.
