Not sure they even get out of group play. 1) don’t be ridiculous about them not getting out of the group stage. Portugal is going to be higher in standings?!? 2) they did not play very well, but they rarely do against a team set in a low block. Add in the man marking and that makes it worse. 6 World Cup debutantes and 1 player making her first ever start in her second cap (she actually looked really good). Let’s not forget that they had plenty of opportunities but their finishing was not good at all 3) Vietnam just played Germany to a 2-1 score line. Clearly the minnows are catching up. Funny about that. Let them have a chance to play and you can grow some good players with some time and an experienced coach. 4) spoiler alert if anyone is watching recorded games later. England just played Haiti and it was a 1-0 win for England. That one goal was on a RETAKEN penalty kick. Haiti looked very dangerous. US beat Haiti 3-0. 5) Spain beat Costa Rica 3-0. US last score vs Costa Rica was also 3-0. All of this is just to state that the minnows are catching up to the giants. Everyone is chasing the US and all are getting closer. US may lose in the quarters or the semis. Or the final. Who knows. But they will have done a FANTASTIC job helping women’s soccer around the world. Make no mistake that even those that you don’t like because they don’t put their hands over their hearts during the anthem have done a lot to bring of RESPECT to WOMEN around the world. They have changed the world for the better!!!! |

Just my opinion and only my opinion and I don't care if you like it or not, nor am I debating it. I won't watch this team as long as Rapinoe is on the team. She is an attention seeker (would say a worse word if it were allowed), and she has made the team about her for years and that has been a distraction. Along with the fake narrative of them not being paid their fair share when % of money earned wise between the men and women they made more by % then the men did until USF decided to make a contract that subsidized dollar for dollar when they don't bring in enough money to cover it (like the WNBA).
I have no desire to support the team by watching it or helping their sponsors at this point. I've been disgusted by some of their antics for years, and I am voting with my eyeballs to not watch it.

If the money is not there (ie like the WNBA) then you can't pay dollar for dollar the same as men's equivalent sport that makes many times the money the women's leagues pull in. If you pay the same anyway you are just subsidizing something that is unsunstainable. If the women want to actually earn the money and not be subsidized then they should get sponsors to pony up more prize money and convince the world to actually go to the games and put eyeballs on the TV when they are playing. Until that happens, women's soccer will never pull in the revenue men's teams do. There is just not as much interest in watching it. People will complain about pointing out the obvious, but statistics and numbers don't lie nor are they misogynistic or anything else. |

Great lesson in economics. Please cite your source. All articles I have read say they are still paying the federations the appropriate $30,000 per player. They just are stating that they can’t guarantee the federations will forward the money to the player as they were supposed to. Not a lesson in economics on the World Cup. Possibly a lesson that there are third world countries in the World Cup with no ethics at all. |

Didn't even know it had started or heard anyone mention it until now, but looks like from news reports good tv ratings. Personally a bit soured around all the politicization and off the field controversies with the team, but hopefully the women perform well as I know a lot of girls look up to them.

Article just says they are not paying the players directly. They will pay through the federations. It never says “we are not paying them the $30,000 per player.” I have read over a half dozen articles and they all put a different spin but none of them say FIFA is not paying that amount. Just saying. My guess is poorer countries got upset and want it through the federations and made a big stink. At the moment the average attendance has been over 30k. Men’s World Cup was 53k, but not that high in the group stage. This is an interesting World Cup as the travel distance is far for the majority of spectators and the distance to follow your team can be far too. We did not go this time despite attending 2015 and 2019. We had planned on it originally but I am not fit to travel that distance at this time.😞 Interesting issue with the distance to travel… may have similar issues with 2026 except at least you can drive it in 3 or 4 days😂. |

it’s so weird that people don’t want to watch the WC because of 1 player because they’re gay. let’s be so serious right now - it has nothing to do with rapinoe’s ‘antics’ or you would hate morgan too if not more- then in the same breath u expect these players to respect their country-which they do bc they’re doing a heck of a job REPRESENTING us- but even if they don’t can u blame them? if all of them sang and put their hands over their hearts ppl would still be mad because ‘they’re saving face they don’t actually respect the country’. there r some folks who let rapinoe live rent free in their heads and wouldn’t have watched even if she wasn’t on the team. if you don’t like them bc they’re women and you think they deserve less JUST SAY THAT. save us all some time- rapinoe gave some remarks about the women’s team before the game and talked about how younger players can see everyone represented- black, white, gay, straight, hispanic, moms- if you’re gonna avoid this amazing team bc of one person- ur missing out but i can tell u they’re not missing u 🤣🤣

Another point she was dribbling down field to try to kill time in stoppage and required 3 French players to stop her!!! Nice job Solai!!! Way to represent ATL and your mother’s country of Jamaica. The Reggae Girlz earned a point and showed the world that they are a group that is getting better all of the time! |

I think Megan Rapinoe makes a lot of people uncomfortable because she’s gay and because she grabbed the bully pulpit that was presented.. and says things that 49-51% of the country frankly dislikes. This is the country we live in.
She used to be the USWNT best player… Twelve years ago. I think it’s remarkable that she’s still playing based on age and based on multiple serious knee injuries. The fact that USWNT has a lot of players injured for this WC will probably force the old woman to play more than she should and thus makes her more likely to be a scapegoat.
I really like to see a new generation on the field. Hope they bring it on Wednesday 9pm.

The fact that USWNT has a lot of players injured for this WC will probably force the old woman to play more than she should and thus makes her more likely to be a scapegoat. if we're talking strictly soccer, then this is the main problem with rapinoe (and historically with several uswnt/usmnt roster spots for that matter) i'm not convinced that her (and morgan's) position that men and women should play on the same field is really relevant at this point. the coming generations of girls/women who are still competing for roster spots (and havent achieved the levels of success rapinoe and morgan have) will determine what is relevant. so to your point, sure, right or wrong, let the dinosaurs use the bully pulpit while they can, i guess |

Some people want change at home before change in other countries. I don’t know that she doesn’t speak about that, but I am glad to see Brazil’s national team make a statement about that with their plane. That being said Brazil needs a ton of work at home too. I think she has no qualms about keeping her spot on the team (for now as she is retiring at then end of this NWSL season) in part because her presence there keeps the issue in the forefront. She is not afraid to speak out because of where she is in her career and it is less risky for her than say Alyssa Thompson or Trinity Rodman or the other young ones. However, unless you have personal strong friendship with people on the national team enough that they would confide a piece of information that her teammates are afraid of her or to speak out against her then you are spewing nonsense. I am not saying that I now that they DON’T feel that way, but none of us can say we know one way or the other. Given the make up of the team I doubt there are many and unlikely to be more than a couple at the most that are afraid of her or to speak out about disagreeing with her. |
