Speaking of TopHat. This weekend I had a conversation with a former TopHat parent that stated, TH is subscribing to a flat upfront coaching fee(s) for tournament and showcase travel/per diem for their GA teams. I don’t want to quote that costs but can anyone confirm this? On the NASA side, they collected a flat fee that covers the projected costs for the season and was payable in installments. If the costs end of being more, we will settle up later. If the costs end of being less, we will get a little money back. That is the way that we have done it on other teams in the past. It is just easier to do an estimated budget for the season and collect the money up front (or in installments). Paying each time a team needs money is a pain in the rear for the team manager to constantly harass people for money and a pain on the parents because it feels like the team is always asking for money. Setting a budget and funding the budget is the way to go.

Agree with poster. Kid played ECNL for big 5. There was an estimated yearly cost provided which could be paid in full or monthly. If adjustment was needed, it was taken care at the end of the season. Never had any issues as the team manager did a great job.

Different issue. Even on the high level teams at the top leagues they still do fewer games than they used to do. The travel to far away places has gone up and the prices of some tournaments have as well. I think it is ridiculous to take U12 teams to California or Texas but people are doing that now rather than playing one or two more local tournaments. I think that has changed for Tophat, UFA, Concorde and GSA. That is where the money goes. Flights, hotels and coaches per diems instead of a local fee to play Concorde or Tophat tournaments and also AFC and RYSA or SSA etc. I do like the preseason friendlies at CESA and now CSA. At least those are car rides. While it is better on the kids’ bodies they are only getting two games instead of 3 or 4 Speaking for the Tophat Academy Girls teams we did three consecutive weekends of tournaments in August for preseason and will do two post season tourneys in Nov/Dec Non-GA teams? (Edit: duh. I missed the academy statement. Pretty tired at the moment). When my kid was at Tophat we did the CESA friendlies preseason. The GA showcases. One year we did NC tournament (they changed the name of it but it draws a lot of college coaches). And regarding the other issue of cost the club collected it at the beginning of the year (or installments) but it was sent to an account not related to the individual TM. The team had an account and GA Gold an GA Navy each had a manager for all ages and she dealt with that stuff. The individual TM did not have to deal with that collection process. They were pretty accurate BTW. A little off during first year of Covid but that was to be expected.

Its relaxing not to have any responsibility for once and can just watch my kids play.
