In the GSA Juniors tournament this weekend, one of the UFA teams (UFA Mountains 2013 Black) got spanked on Saturday and decided not to show up for its third game on Sunday, but failed to tell anyone else. CF 2013 Black/SCCL team showed up Sunday thinking it had an 8am game only to find out that it didn't. Unusually for that CF team, it was effectively out of contention for the finals after Saturday. I'm sure had CF known UFA wasn't going to show up, they would have taken the forfeit and not bothered driving to Dacula early Sunday morning.
What's the typical penalty for a team that does this? It's not like tournaments are going to ban all UFA or even UFA Mountain teams. Is it even possible to punish the responsible parties?

The normal penalty for this kind of situation would be that they forfeit the game and it counts as 0-3 or 0-4 loss for them. I don't think their is going to be any punishment involved other then a sorry from the directors if you tried to ask them about it. I would forget about it and move on.
Any time there is a game that is a bit unusual, bad weather is in play, or its far away. Just to be safe, contact the other team to make sure the game is on. Save everybody from this kind of headache. Sorry you all had to deal with this, I would be really upset too.

I doubt there will be a punishment for the team that didn't show up, and I'm certain this isn't the first time it has ever happened in a tournament.
Additionally, from what I have heard in the past, the only reason Concorde would be awarded the forfeit win is if they showed up. So, if neither team showed up, even if pre-arranged, there probably wouldn't have been a forfeit win awarded to either team.
It sucks if it wasn't communicated that the team wouldn't be there, but it happens.

Funny-ish story. Showcase in NC several years ago. Went to watch my brother's team play the early game (coached high level girls). Got to the field prior to kick to find his team walking off. Half the other players got food poisoning at the team dinner and had been up all night, um, dehydrating. Coach tried to rally but only had about 8 walking players. Everyone smartly decided to call it a day and go home. Really no other solution.

We got to head home a few hours early.
