interesting given arthur blank foundation has its hand it, personally don't think US soccer should be using MLS owners resources for these types of endeavors. watch it be built next to Atlanta United's training center.....

Building a center that gets used a handful of weekend per year is definitely “on brand” for pay to play.
Stupid waste of a lot of money IMO. Any college campus could host NT activities, schedule permitting of course.

For those being critical please note from the release… The national center is expected to be a hub to improve playing, coaching and refereeing through advances in technology, analysis and infrastructure. It will accommodate all of the youth teams of both genders, the men’s and women’s national teams, and the extended national teams, which includes the Beach, Deaf, Cerebral Palsy, Futsal and Power. A portion of the money donated by Blank will be dedicated toward the extended teams, particularly the locker rooms and training facilities. The site will host youth tournaments.

Not just the training center - the HQ as well. Because who wants to live in Chicago?

Having the US Soccer HQ here is a win for Georgia. Uncle Arthur is a true patron of the game. Net positive despite my personal dislike for MLS controlling the federation for its own benefit.

This is one of the two most significant events in the history of soccer in Georgia (along with Atlanta United). Simply fantastic and a BIG win for everyone that loves soccer and is around the game in Georgia. Will be a great fit and a huge win for US Soccer long term!

If USSF is spending our money on fields to be used by MLS, like in KC, these gifts need to wind up on MLS tax forms and/or be investigated as tax fraud.

Everything I’ve heard is this is going to be a complex with a dozen plus fields, indoor facilities and meeting areas. Anyone know of land for sale that could accommodate such a facility because my guess is Uncle Arthur is also selling some land up in Flowery Branch next to his Falcons HQ. When they build this 45 mins from Atlanta we’ll see how this goes.

Their was that property that the people wanted to donate to UFA (we have a thread about it) -- It would have been expensive and needs these kinds of resources to develop.
the cool thing is Atlanta needs a huge soccer complex like this to host major youth championships -- not that it would be used for that. Georgia Soccer park was the dream, but I guess once Atlanta united was created, Arthur Blank lost interest in further developing the park. (remember his kids played at concorde).
If the SEC had men's soccer, I truly believe Atlanta would be the mecca of all college soccer. I also truly believe, that until the SEC adds men's soccer, the US will continue to fail......Given title 9, this will never happen.

I agree, but would also add the US needs a defined structure and pathway for soccer.

Such a facility would be on par or better than Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, NC and could potentially host the College Cup! But sigh would never happen as Georgia does not have anywhere near the level of College soccer programs as NC. UGA and GA Tech will likely never add men’s soccer unless it was required by law (title ix).

Well makes for a true neutral site -- unlike UNC playing at home in the womens finals basically, which was far from a neutral site. Yea, GA tech should be ashamed of themselves, no girls team either and with now conference expansion, going to be expensive to hit the west coast a few times a year.

Doug Robertson's AJC column suggested they are narrowing down to 2 sites for this newcomplex. One is unnamed. The other is Tyler Perry's property (former Fort McPherson) in SW Atlanta.

Is there enough land right across from Franklin Gateway and down the street from Atlanta United training center? www.google.com/maps/place/1033+Franklin+Gateway+SE,+Marietta,+GA+30067/@33.9295996,-84.4917384,921m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x88f5116fbc910a6d:0x72ece4fe8458e701!8m2!3d33.9284422!4d-84.4926076!16s%2Fg%2F11rp1y32m1?entry=ttu

I read the article. I believe US soccer wants to build a building and multiple soccer fields for training. The old stadium site doesn’t seem like a fit. Maybe it could be a place where friendlies are played. Fort Mac (old golf course) and the Franklin gateway have enough acreage to build building and at least 6 full fields. My guess is Fort Mac. Great location inside perimeter and close to airport where players are coming and leaving.

200+ acres, proximity to the airport, and double digit fields including a bubble for futsal and power chair teams are minimum requirements according to article in the business chronicle.

200+ acres is a lot of land... wow, a soccer field is 1.86 acres for reference.

Over half of the property at Georgia Sports Park remains undeveloped and those of us old enough to remember the late 1990’s and early 2000’s know that this is what has long been envisioned for the site.
