We've been spared another cycle of megan rapinoe. Now it's time to put Alex Morgan out to pasture and let her breed. These younger players are a breath of fresh air.

Can you not comment without saying a horribly sexist thing about one of the best strikers ever for the USWNT? Wouldn’t it be nice if the USMNT had a striker who scored 121 goals and had 52 assists. Younger players deserve their time, but Alex still has time if she wants it. Lots of strikers going through a scoring drought. It is normal. Just like a hitting slump in baseball and it isn’t all within their control. They score a lot off rebounds and sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce their way. They depend a lot on getting good service and sometimes that doesn’t happen either. Look at Marcus Rashford! He is struggling right now too. It happens. You can wish to see the younger players without being sexist and horrible about the woman who helped us win 2 World Cups and some Olympic medals.

I know for males, in English you say "put out to stud" or something very close- While I'm near native fluency in English, I'm not a native speaker. So, if there is a female equivalent of that term, please let me know. If there is not a female equivalent, then you might want to check your premises on what "sexism" is. Moreover, examine why you aren't offended by the terms such as "out to stud." My family fled leftism only to find it in droves here in America in "the bible belt". Pretty amazing. Edit- and it's great that Alex Morgan has *had a successful career, but it is clear that she cannot produce (goals) like she once could. Time catches up to us all. It is a reality.

Morgan has been past her prime for several years. Nice career, not as impactful as Wambach, but time to step into a more limited role, like cheering from the sidelines.

Even wambach knew when it was time to step to the side and let the younger players get the time they deserved.

Morgan is washed...finished. And she has been washed and finished for several years. In fact, this entire team needs a reboot. Naeher, Dunn, Williams, Morgan, Sauerbrun....exit stage left right behind Rapinoe. Time for the younger generation to see if they have what it takes to bring the United States back to the top. I have doubts, but they have to be given the chance

Don’t know where you are from but here we don’t refer to women or men past their prime as needing to breed. This is not horse racing, it is soccer. It is not an English fluency thing, though your written English is quite good. It is a “read the room” thing. Considering 50 years ago women were thought of as being only useful for their breeding and rearing of children and women fought for the right to be whatever they wanted to be, the current political climate is that only far right wingers think of women that way any longer. So fleeing the left to Atlanta should still put you in a place that thinks of women’s breeding of heirs to be pretty far down the list of acceptable topics. Maybe you need to move to Mississippi or Texas (except major metro areas). A better way to have said that it was time to retire would be to say “hang up her boots (or cleats).” Alex Morgan is definitely past her prime, but she can still be useful to the team. Many of the older players are getting to the point that they won’t be around much longer and I am cool with that. I thought Carli should have left earlier and Rapinoe too, but some senior leadership is helpful. Not to mention that the new ones have yet to prove themselves on the international stage. Hatch has been inconsistent, Macario was injured and Fischel was just brought in. While Rodman, Williams and Smith are all potential strikers for the USWNT they all get used as wingers because without them we have no wingers. Oh and strangely Rodman and Smith did not produce goals in either game, but Shaw and Fischel did. So the younger youngsters helped us. The US needs the competition at all positions to step things up to the way it used to be. Too many injuries keeping Press and Heath out and then Pugh and they seem to not have developed any wingers to fill in their spots except to convert strikers to wingers. The competition at all position that we see about to happen with all of these teens and 23 and under players is what will get us back on track, but Morgan needs to be on the Olympic team for leadership.

I defer to you on the linguistic points. Though, in the future, spare others from direct personal insults/attacks if you don't mind. It's just looks bad. As for the US women national team, there are many fans who, for whatever reasons, cling to rapinoe /morgan era. It's over. And they helped kill it. In terms of leadership, Julie Ertz is herself more of leadership material than Alex Morgan ever has been. add with her crystal dunn and even horan and there is simply no longer need for a "leader" with limited on-filed utility like morgan. I hope a lesson will be learned about rapinoe, and apply it to morgan to cut losses sooner rather than later.

Agree with you on much of what you wrote. I respected Ertz as a leader. She should have been viewed as the on-field general. Unfortunately, Morgan and Rapinoe (and to a lesser degree Dunn and Naeher) were more concerned about off the field matters than on the field success and that led to dysfunctionality. They often made it about themselves with narcissistic attitudes. If I am understanding your point, you seem to feel Horan may be done as well. I do not agree with that.

Heath is 35 and Press is 34….they are washed too. Time to start over. Heath was always one of my favorites. So crafty and great workrate. Ertz was a champ and went out on top before she washed out. Others should take note. Personally always thought Dunn was overrated. Looked like a fast forward with bad touch forced to play outside back to keep her on the field. Rarely seemed to be in the right place / right time. I'm sure there were exceptions, but that was my observation.

I'm sure there were exceptions, but that was my observation. Sorry not Sorry but you truly don't know what you're talking about. I'm hoping you are using this thread piling on other USWNT players as cover to excise some dislike you may have for her. Maybe she's not cute enough for you, maybe her 5ft, 1inch frame bothers you, maybe she's not marketed enough for you to see past what you may read in the SM sphere. But, Crystal Dunn and the word overrated, definitely don't go together... Just W0W - over 130+ caps ( overrated) - won the U-20 world cup (overrated) - played for Chelsea in the WSL ( overrated) - ACC Player of the year (overrated) - ACC Offensive Player of the year ( overrated) - ACC Defensive Player of the year (overrated) - NCAA national Champion at UNC in 2012 ( overrated) - played college ball at UNC (overrated) - started all 6 Olympic games in 2020 ( overrated) - 3 time NWSL Championship, with the 3rd just last year (overrated) - won the bronze medal in the 2020 Olympic games ( overrated) - selected #1 overall in NWSL Draft (overrated) - youngest player to win NWSL MVP ( overrated) - youngest player to win NWSL Golden Boot (overrated) - won the Hermann Trophy as best player in college soccer ( overrated) I'm sure there are more overrated accolades and awards but these are just the ones I remember off the top of my head. Pardon me, she also won the 2019 women's WC. But you're right, she's truly an overrated player who's career is predicated, founded and succeeded only on not being in the right place at the right time... Geesh

Respectfully going to disagree with you Futsal Gawdess. Most of those accolades are team driven. That said, I have the same impression as SoccerLoafer as it pertains to Dunn. Honestly, I have never been overly impressed with what she brought to the game especially on the international stage. Not going to say she is a bum.....but I don't feel she ever was a standout to my eyes on the international stage.

Every organization has 'the golden child' that gets tons of awards but isn't really better than anyone else. Once you get the halo once, it's hard to knock off. Never said she was terrible, just overrated - specifically on the WNT - and brought little but disorder to the games I watched.

Heath is 35 and Press is 34….they are washed too. Time to start over. I did not say they belonged on the national team any longer but it isn’t due to age. They have both been injured recently and have not been able to play consistently. I was merely pointing out that they, along with Rapinoe and Williams, have been the go to wingers for so long and we have lacked competition there. Having a lot of competition for spots is what we need. The camps can’t just be the same players all of the time. We need about 35 or so in consideration for each camp so they can battle each time and not take it for granted.

No amount of Arthur Blank tax write offs and new real estate will fix that. Franchise McSoccer only perpetuates keeping little known players and coaches hidden.
