They hung with Atlanta for sure and out played them for most the 2nd half.
No doubt though - the dudes Atlanta brought in are physical monsters. I’d take Ufa’s center back over the Atlanta United player from out of town for sure. Kid can play. The rest of those kids are beasts. UFA should be proud. Played well and cenceded a late goal on a stupid foul.
Final Results
AU vs UFA at Fowler Park in Forsyth
U12s - 4-2 & 6-1 AU(may be more or less with the 6-1 score, left before the game was over)
U13s - 2-0 AU
U14s - 2-1 UFA
U15s - 2-1 AU
U17s - AU were losing when I had to leave
I saw a lot of the U12/U13/U14/U15 games and here is my synopsis.
U12s - In the 6-1 game, the AU team seemed to be stacked. No real challenge, in the 4-2 game, UFA went up early and gave AU a real challenge. AU did show a lot of heart in coming back from an 0-2 deficit and reeled off 4 to win. But still mostly a well balanced game.
U13s - This was a sledge match and both teams fought for almost 3/4 of the game and were still tied. UFA has a stout defense and they tucked in, pinned their ears back and really hampered the AU offense. Two quick ugly and lucky plays later AU was up by 2-0. If UFA had maybe one more striker, could have been a different outcome.
U14s - Not sure if the new players on the AU team have blended in smoothly yet. Good players but UFA looked like the better team. UFA was up 2-0 before Au eeked out one goal via a questionable PK call. With about 10 mins to go, AU was pressing hard to equalize but again the UFA defenders held them out.
U15s - This was the most evenly matched teams. It was a 1-1 draw early and stayed that way for most of the game. With maybe a couple of minutes left AU scored and their celebration showed how much they wanted that goal and realized UFA could have also scored the go ahead goal. The whole team and the bench celebrated.
I started the U17s game but had to leave to get my young ones ready for school tomorrow. AU was losing when I left. I believe they lost, but don't know score. All in all I would say UFA looks a little better prepared at giving AU a game. UFA was just as tough, skilled and well coached. I think the edge only goes to AU because they have more athletes and at times better players, but UFA plays as a team and that makes them dangerous. On a side note, it was interesting to see the UFA parents and fans on the sideline. It was windy and chilly at times but that did not damper the fans. They cheered UFA on from start to finish, sometimes obnoxiously. At one point, I saw one of the Directors at UFA almost send off one of the UFA U12 parents because she was just out of control. Lady calm down, it's not the world cup.
