Surely some smart business person had the foresight to see that you need year round programming to justify building a complex that size and for that much money. If they had something like the Battery nearby (shopping and entertainment district) that would drive pedestrian traffic year round

My guess is these things only thrive when they are county/city funded projects that are looking to provide a service to the community and bring folks in from out of town to spend money in your community vs directly at the facility. That, and they don't have an attraction besides just the facility. I think they were planning on doing the reverse of what other successful places have done and build the "other" attractions after completing the park.
Disney, Gatlinburg, Gulf Shores, etc all already had a built in reason for coming before building their parks. JMHO

Lakepoint does not work for tournaments because tournaments in Atlanta are not about the quality of the competition but horse trading among clubs. If a club uses Lakepoint for a tournament, it is just renting the space to host the tournament while the club is keeping the money from the tournament.

Interesting, I wonder if someone ran away with the money?
