GSA I assume? Have they used Mt Carmel before? Yes, and apparently. This is our first year actually playing in the GSA Tournament. We have been scheduled in Lilburn before, but it has always been rained out.

Good questions. Which tournament? I think this whole hotel-mandate-with-likely-kickbacks-situation needs to investigated. We are doing a nearby out-of-state tournament with this requirement, which I think is ridiculous. Depending on first game time, its totally drive-able from home both days. None of the ATL clubs have this requirement at our tournaments I assume. I am surprised that this kick back situation is not well known by club members. If US Club soccer stepped in and made this practice illegal how much less travel would we have to do? I know there are at least two dozen teams that would provide great local competition for my daughters team yet we have to travel all over the south to play. If traveling cost the clubs money instead of travel making the clubs money the parents would not be constantly getting screwed over. Fortunately for the clubs it takes parents years to figure out what is going on. By the time the damage to your wallet has already been done. And your kids can't wait until soccer is over so they can quit and lead normal lives again.

As for a tournament being drive-able, I think that is fine. From my understanding the deal is, if you are going to stay in a hotel, you are supposed to go through the host club & their mandated hotels. If you plan to drive each day from home it isn't an issue.

Stay to play most evil part of competitive soccer. Let teams choose the lodging that works for them. I would much prefer to rent a few condos or houses or at minimum choose the level and location of hotel instead of being forced to overpay for lacking accommodations

Because that’s what it boils down to. You are essentially paying $100 to the hotel and $x to the tournament host.

What stay to play hotel option have you ever found for $100? We have never had one that cheap? Also, this is not a club issue, this is a league and tourney issue because at least at our club these fees are not paid to or by the club

May as well add an "out of state" fee.
maxx:
The poster is saying pay $100 for normal hotel rate and then pay $40 more per player (or whatever amount MORE the group rate is) to the host for the tournament cost.
At one of our recent tournaments, the breakfast ticket actually said the tournament host's name on it. And their breakfast wasn't worth $12.

It would be interesting to see how these revenues are reported.
