Not sure of DPL costs but since my daughter has now done both ecnl and prior national league (both piedmont and the national tier) I hope your 20k comment is not for the national league.
Piedmont: 3 away trips all driveable. 2 nights hotel per trip with average of $150 per night. Plus throw in $50 coaching fees so the piedmont is $1,000 plus gas plus whatever the club charges you to be part of their league. Our small club was $1000.
So piedmont is extremely reasonable cost wise if SCCL player not happy about lack of trouble and no pro/rep. Now if the team also does the national tier that is 2 long weekends of games that will essentially double the price plus likely one flight to Las Vegas so total cost to do both was around $3000 to do both
ECNL was a huge jump in price but worth it as well if you can afford it

The 20K number was for 4 years of DPL at CSA (they have a $5K all-Florida-and-showcase-travel-expenses-included tuition). Whether or not the club charges that up front, $2K tuition plus 3 x 2-night stays in South Florida will cost you 5 grand for a parent+child (less if its just the child), plus more for showcases. Then they have to drive to Georgia for likely a 1-night stay and Charleston.

There is nothing preventing GA Soccer from promoting the winner of SCCL to National League (should they want to accept). SC Youth Soccer does it now. And Tophat showed us that no one's 2nd team on the girls side is good enough for an elite league. Would it be such a bad thing for 3rd level players to seek greener pastures? They're basically setting up that possibility with DPL. But for the 2nd team parents who want that travel team status and can/will afford it, good luck. I hope you at least make up that $20K (for 4 years league/travel) in scholarships or that the money it is just throw-away money to you.
edit: We will see how people view this league come tryouts. So under three months. It would be an interesting experiment if UFA offered SCCL first team in Forsyth and whether the current NPL families try out for DPL or SCCL.
This is why I set out to educate myself and ultimately found this website... which has been quite helpful. If I hadn't, I would be basing decisions off of what the club said was the right move, and sadly, I think they will sell DPL as the right move. I've come to realize they don't always place the players and parents concerns/interests first. They are a business first and foremost and some seem willing to sacrifice integrity by propping up "newer, better" leagues in order to increase market share and notoriety. Having said that, I sure there will be plenty of parents that will buy into the DPL because they will promote it/hype it as the next big thing!

I think a lot of what attracts clubs to ERCL and DPL Is future proofing. From reading this forum, it sounds like state leagues, NL and NPL are on a quick degrading. DPL gives clubs like UFA access to another exclusive league for their second teams and insures they are not left behind. You only need to look at clubs that do not have access to DA/ECNL to see that how that affects the landscape. While a lot of this for market share and hype, I bet in 1-3 years that hype drives the ERCL and DPL leagues to being the clear second level leagues around the county and replacing what is currently there. When that happens, I imagine a lot of players would leave to clubs that could offer those leagues if there’s did not. I would actually hope my club gets involved, again not for what it currently is, but for what I think it will be down the line. So call it deception, or lack of integrity, but at the end of the day I think its the right move and thats before I’ve been given the pitch.

Yes. See excerpts from Carolina ECRL
ECNL Girls Regional Leagues are designed to service a deeper player pool from member clubs within the ECNL Girls, and to provide a competitive platform for objective evaluation of new clubs for full ECNL membership in the future. Top performing teams in ECNL Girls Regional Leagues earn the opportunity to compete in the Open Cup Division of the ECNL Playoffs in June at the U15, U16 and U17 ages, where they will match up against other ECNL Girls Regional League teams as well as teams from the full ECNL.
