Yeah, doesn't surprise me they are taking loyalty into account. That was the eain possible reason I didn't think Tophat would be accepted back in the first year. Tophat just 12 months ago said "DA is better than your product". They would be accepted back eventually, undoubtedly, and it still may happen this month.

I also heard that the head of Tophat has not said kind words about ECNL and that has strained the relationship they once had. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out for their future with ECNL.

Rumor is that the ECNL has only accepted 2 GDA clubs in SoCal, San Diego Surf and Real So Cal, who were both founding members of ECNL when it began. Surprisingly, this leaves out some very good clubs. In particular Legends and and Beach who were both listed as top-ten girls clubs by SoccerWire. If that's true, many suspect it's because ECNL is staying loyal to clubs who have geographic overlap and have stayed loyal to ECNL the last few years.I'm sure ECNL wanted to get those big names in the SW before some other league started and snatched them all up at once. As for Tophat... How have they stayed loyal if they were DA? Did they have both?

What I was trying to say is that there are some ECNL clubs currently in the same general geographic location as Legends and Beach, and those current ECNL clubs have been loyal to ECNL over the years. For Legends, Arsenal FC is relatively close and they turned down GDA initially and have remained loyal to ECNL. So Cal Blues is also also relatively nearby(by SoCal standards), and they have been in both GDA and ECNL since GDA was announced. Their best older teams have been placed in ECNL over GDA since the beginning, and have won multiple ECNL Championship even after GDA was created. All of their older YNT players are on their ECNL teams. For Beach, LAFC/Slammers are relatively close. They had teams in GDA and ECNL in the beginning, but went All-in ECNL after the first year, and now have two ECNL teams. They have been very loyal to ECNL over the years. The speculation is that ECNL is paying back those clubs' loyalty by not accepting Legends and Beach. There are also some other very good clubs like LA Galaxy and LA Galaxy San Diego, who are also ranked in the top 50 by SoccerWire that are in the same boat as Legends and Beach, and have not been accepted into ECNL. If these clubs were loyal, and had both as soccerlegacy has started, then why is ECNL celebrating them as “new additions?”

These two clubs were original founding members of ECNL, but left ECNL and were GDA-only clubs this year. Surf had both ECNL and GDA initially, but left ECNL after they were given an ultimatum by ECNL to choose between GDA and ECNL. Real SoCal left ECNL when GDA was announced. These clubs were not really loyal, but were accepted back in because of their history as founding members and history of success. If these clubs were loyal, and had both as soccerlegacy has started, then why is ECNL celebrating them as “new additions?”

If these clubs were loyal, and had both as soccerlegacy has started, then why is ECNL celebrating them as “new additions?” I think he isn't saying Surf and Real So Cal were loyal but that they are trying to make sure they don't hose the loyal (have stayed in the whole time) clubs by bringing in too many nearby clubs. If that is the case than I would expect Tophat to get back in because they only left ECNL last year and 6 clubs in Atlanta is not so bad.
