Hearing that AFU is not holding tryouts this year. Teams will be rostered as they were were last year and players will have opportunity to move up our down once "team camp/training" starts.

Yet the invited will grab ECNL spots. Another example of the second team players being overlooked for shiny new players from other clubs.
Hey second levels players (SCCL) just sign up so we have your money and depth and we will “evaluate” later. Oh, look the other way as those 2-3 new girls were added via phone to the top team. That’s none of your concern, lol.
Thank goodness we got one of those calls, lol

No tryouts for both new and existing or just existing players?

As I mentioned in another post earlier, it's my understanding that all metro Atlanta clubs are cancelling tryouts

As I mentioned in another post earlier, it's my understanding that all metro Atlanta clubs are cancelling tryouts I believe the big 5 or big 6 made this decision together. So I expect more announcements, but am unsure how many other clubs will fall in line.

Honestly, it doesn't really make complete sense. Postponing til July would make more sense than canceling. With this, expect a lot of people to not pay on signing day. Why would you pay if there's a chance you will be moved down or not have a season at all?

My kid is not the ECNL kid that has already gotten a call. I have no intention of paying until my kid gets to tryout at the two clubs on his list and I know what team he is on. Why would clubs think it's okay to take your money without making a commitment to your player.

Why would clubs think it's okay to take your money without making a commitment to your player. Totally agree. If you want to cancel tryouts and register your existing players on their existing teams that is one thing. If there is a player who feels they want to try out at another club or feels they should be on a higher team at their current club I would recommend not registering and reaching out to club for a private/individual tryout.

What do their u13s do that are going from 9v9 to 11v11 and will expand their rosters for all of their 08s? Keep their same players on the top team but they need to add 4-6 more.

Again, it doesn't make sense, there are too many intangibles/unknowns. They should postpone tryouts to the week of June 14 for academy and June 21 for select.

Issue is unless Ga Soccer says they are postponing tryouts till say June 15th then the Big 5 will whine and pull some BS and not follow it. Add in ECNL tryouts nationally started back at the beginning of May so we are already behind multiple states.

Again, it doesn't make sense, there are too many intangibles/unknowns. They should postpone tryouts to the week of June 14 for academy and June 21 for select. As we all stated on other threads the top kids (starters) will keep their spots at the top team level. The issue is the bubble players and the lower team players WANTING to move up (not all kids want to) and the players changing clubs. They should be allowed a chance. The clubs should just do small groups for them. It is easy enough. Once you have the top team set then you move down the list. This is what happens anyway to a large extent. There really is no purpose in the best of the best trying out when the likelihood that you will have an entire starting line up usurped for new players is small. Most coaches are not even looking for more than a few kids. There is no reason to move the tryouts for the few kids. Just do the small groups and move on. For the 7v7 going to 9v9 and 9v9 going to 11v11 they could just do the bottom kids from the top team and the top kids from the second team and decide that way.

This doesn't account for inter-club movement at all, which we know will happen. You can't keep all the kids on top teams when you're taking kids from other clubs.

They will keep the starters and maybe the best bench players but the bubble players will be put to the test against the "shiny new" players from other clubs and the best of the second team. At least that is what should happen. We all know about should, would and could situations though.

DA closing does through a wrinkle in ECNL trouts this year. I would imagine most coaches will lock down 10ish returning players and then evaluate the rest. I've seen lots of "other" ECNL club starters and DA kids on our team Zoom practices this week.

Wondering about all this myself.
Just because a team was all together last year doesn't mean all those players will still be playing this year. I know there is a possibility that a few on my daughter's 03 team from last year may not be coming back, and one is out for the fall with an injury. How do you fill those spots? What if there are spots available on higher level teams that my daughter or other players might be good enough to move up to.
My daughter is a rising junior this season, so this is a pivotal season for her.
It would also help for clubs to release their coaching lists so we can get a lay of the land.

GA Alliance Cobb is still holding tryouts and also offering COVID refund assurance if there’s another season interruption.

2 hours later, no announcement from AFU via email, social media or website. I'm wondering if the person that posted jumped the gun a little. Maybe they heard that AFU is discussing other options and took that to mean that tryouts are being cancelled.

2 hours later, no announcement from AFU via email, social media or website. Soccerfan30's post and the news that Tophat isn't doing theirs probably made this post have more legs than it would have otherwise. The lack of statement to parents or posting website and social media info doesn't surprise me. Even if they are planning to avoid tryouts they might wait a day or two to tell everyone because of the mess it will create.
