Something for people to think about and offer opinions. Club and sex does not matter.
So you had a great year last year. You were on a really good team, but not the top team. Teammates all got along and played unselfishly. Parents all got along and genuinely wanted everyone on the team to do well. You got better, a lot better, as a player and a teammate. Your team improves to the point that in scrimmages you can draw with the next higher level team in the club.
So now you have a choice. You can stay with the same coach and team or move up the ladder to a higher level team. You know the style of the current coach and know that you will be pushed to improve. You know that if you move up it will be a transition but you will be playing higher level games and that the new coach will also be pushing you to improve. You are also 13 or 14 years old.
What do you do?

What do you do? The reasons behind a result especially in a scrimmage can be several, and a draw doesn't necessarily mean the teams are same level or talent between them has become equal. If you are a hard working player, dedicated to the sport, committed and willing to make sacrifices to get to the next level, get out of your comfort zone. If the relative improvement has made you the best player on the team or to the point you don't feel as pushed, challenge yourself to the next level if given the opportunity. Of course quality coaching will always be very important to continue developing through higher challenges, as well as a non-toxic environment.

What do you do? If offered, you move up to the higher team. First of all, there is no guarantee the team you were on will be the same next year. Just one or two players changing teams can change the entire dynamic of the old team. Secondly, if your player wants to continue improving, they need to play with and against better competition. There is only so far a player can go playing at a lower level.

I might be opening a can of worms here, but when you say “sex doesn’t matter”, are you referring to the team/player, girls vs boys or the coach, male vs female.

It means that it doesn't matter if it is a female soccer player or male soccer player.

At 13 or 14 and still on an upward trajectory - move up. 2 years later and you've plateaued, stay with the fun team and enjoy the experience.

Every player cuts their own deal. Every year.
Players will leave and players will enter.
Finding a group you enjoy one year is nice. Finding a group you enjoy who stays together more than a season or two is... unicorn like.
Don’t bother trying to “organize” (or participate in) a group decision because it’ll just turn into hard feelings.
Just enjoy the ride.
