So admit I was naive, assumed CESA friendlies were just that "friendlies"
HOW DO THEY JUSTIFY CHARGING $395 PER TEAM FOR 1 GAME SATURDAY AND 1 GAME SUNDAY
How much would refs costs? $125 a game? It's friendlies use 1 ref.

$395 divided by 18 doesn’t come out that bad

At this point, I'd pay a lot more than that to see my kids play a real game.

You have to pay for those??? Afu included them in our registration fees so nothing new out of pocket for the ECNL and SCCL player.
And honestly I think it’s great and cheaper then the $725 concorde is robbing us of.
One Ref for a high level team playing is just asking for injuries and a shît game.

You do not want 1 ref on a high level game, regardless of 'friendly' or not. I've had players go to blows during in-house friendlies with the DOC watching (older boys). Take no chances, trust me.

Maybe the original poster is just coming up from Academy to select age. In the select ages it is no longer about the tournament win. If you are in ECNL or GA or whatever high conference you want to gear things toward winning your league. I hope I never have to see my 04 player play 2 games in 1 day again. Their bodies take a pounding. Rest and recovery is needed in between games.

My daughter's SCCLP team beat a DPL team down at Disney last Nov during a night game which put them in the semi-finals. They had to turn around and play a 9 a.m. game against a team that had a much easier schedule than them and didn't have as many injuries. Needless to say they lost from just being tinkered out.

We’re the only country I know of that runs youth tournaments with 3-4 games over a two day period

Well, when the federation ran its own league it did not do that. The tournaments had 1 game per day and usually was 3 games over 4 days to give a day of rest in there. Older kids do need more time in between games and should have 1 game per day max. Younger teams can play two games per day IMO. I would make the cutoff at U13 though because once they start 11v11 they are running a lot. U12 and under should be able to do 4 games in 2 days, but not every weekend.

Feds were pretty strict with their own tournaments, but then started allowing teams to participate in tourneys on their own without the restricted game play.
Some local tourneys often would have teams play a game friday night to help with these issues when there was a showcase format -- often these would be local teams.
a three day weekend when its 90 degrees plus really is brutal... Last year in August, turf fields almost were not even playable it was so hot. Kids had nothing left in the tank for 2nd games later in the day.
fortunately most of these events remove sub restrictions and allow teams to use all 18 at their free will.

It’s tough if your player is 16-18 on a team.

It’s tough if your player is 16-18 on a team. It is my experience that in ECNL or the higher leagues a lot of teams don't carry 18. They carry 15 to 16. However, I only really watch girls academy and select games. I am ok with removing substitution rules for preseason tourneys. The point is to see everyone to prepare for league season. I dont know what the boys side is experiencing.

Looks like a particular GA club is headed to CESA to try to plant a few bragging rights flags in the ECNL/ECRL vs GA discussion. Hope the crossover trend continues throughout the season.

so the Cesa friendlies brackets are kind of interesting. Tophat has has put their second GA team, the GA Navy team, in the ECRL bracket not the ECNL bracket. So even Tophat is admitting their second team is not ecnl quality yet when season begins that Navy team will be in the same season competition bracket with the Gold team and the rest of the GA L ?

Nice try. But I think shooting their shot at winning both ECNL and ECRL divisions for bragging rights is the likely answer. TH has always gone out of its way not to have multiple teams within the same tournament divisions. Who'd want an inter-club tournament final? Definitely not the case with other clubs, just take a look at the SSA Tournament divisions on the same weekend.

Who knows at this point if the groups weren't just created by their standard scheduling software -- wouldn't worry to much until you see a schedule. Also not sure about "winning" a division when you play 2 games in friendlies

I believe GSA or Cesa will win the ECNL division. also the top hat 🎩 Gold team was the only quality team top hat 🎩 fielded last year. Definitely not confident that NAVY will even make it to the finals. Umm. Is this just trash talk or are you serious? First of all it is "friendlies," not a true tournament. There will be no "winning" the division or going to the finals. Each team is playing one game per day for 2 games total. There are flights and divisions just for scheduling purposes, trying to pair people up. As for which teams will dominate their 3 team bracket (if there is such as thing) the schedules are not even out yet. If the brackets are to be believed Tophat Gold (former DA/top team) will play AFU and UFA. They won't even play GSA or CESA. In my kid's age group the best teams last year were neither of those clubs you claim will win. In fact GSA was near the bottom of their ECNL conference and CESA was mid table. Granted the GSA team has changed but I have to wonder how much CESA could have changed. Who would they pull from? Your prediction on NAVY not making the finals is 100% accurate because there are no finals.
