If it is a car ride away, they will come and take a look. But this is not football or basketball with unlimited recruiting budgets. Dollars are limited and most are only getting on flights to get to the most talent rich environments with high concentrations of college level players. The vast majority are prioritizing their time away at the MLS Next games and showcases Let's use Duke for an example: They had last year's #1 recruiting class on the men's side..8 MLS Next, 2 International, 1 other. This year's freshman class is 4 MLS Next, 2 International. Next year's class to date: 3 MLS Next Clemson's current freshman class is not much different: 3 MLS Next, 2 International, 1 ECNL I’m sorry but my experience and information is the direct opposite. Schools are flush with cash having had to sit on the sidelines for 2 years. You really need to differentiate between MLS academy and MLS Next. Coaches are coming to our games this weekend and it’s just the regular season opener(s) for rising juniors! I just have no idea what in the world you’re talking about. I am talking about the several D1 head coaches and recruiting coordinators I have spoken with personally this summer I will keep looking at my lunch break...all 4 of Wake's recruits for next year are MLS Next; Maryland is 2 MLS and 2 ECNL (from Baltimore); UVA is 6 from MLS Next and 1 from ECNL; Princeton is 4 MLS Next; Stanford is 3 MLS Next; Army is 3 MLS Next and 2 ECNL

I would say what schools and how many but my username is too obvious.

So of all the MLS Next “commitments you list- how many were MLS Academies vs non. I’d wager over 85% or more are MLS Academies. If not MLS academies, the MLS Next competition is weak in many regions. Which is why MLS Next makes no sense until stronger Non-MLS clubs join.
Oh, btw, what about Marshall’s commitments?

I am using representative examples of schools. The point I am trying to make is this. All of those coaches are making certain to go to the MLS events. It shows up in the recruiting profiles of the schools. Of course, you can play in other leagues and get recruited.....but it is more hit or miss. You know for certain that every coach will see you at a MLS Next showcase.

You know for certain that every coach will see you at a MLS Next showcase. I don’t disagree with your statement, but college and National team scouts and others will go where the talent is whether it’s MLSNEXT / ECNL or NPL. As far as Georgia is concerned, use that as an example. ECNL teams played MLSNEXT teams and were dominant. In my opinion right now, the strongest talent sits in GSA/UFA/NASA/Concorde and add in Chatanooga/TSC/CESA/NCFC and a few others in the SE - all ECNL teams. If and when they make the switch to MLSNEXT along with similar teams in the other regions that’s when MLSNEXT will be a force. For now, scouts at MLSNEXT events are likely watching MLS Academies over the few teams who did not get into ECNL but made MLSNEXT. As a side comment, there is also more to D1 offers than being a great player. Many of these top players suffer in academics which is part of the equation as well. At the end of the day we’ve made something relatively simply overly complicated. I just don’t see how having an MLS NEXT CREST on your chest and playing one or two MLS academy teams (in the SE there are so few non-Academy MLS teams to play against - this necessitates travel or more frequent “scrimmages” against an age group younger MLS Academy team) makes you a better prospect than an ECNL player who is afforded the opportunity to play a wide range of teams.
