It's so odd that CESA doesn't update the scores as the games are played. Anyway, here are a few more:
AFU 07G ECRL 2-2 draw today vs. Charlotte SA 07G Blue ECRL
AFU 04/05G ECRL 3-0 yesterday vs. Charlotte Independence 04/05G Composite

They are preseason friendlies. Think of it more like the NFL preseason. Did you get your work in to prepare you for the regular season? Did you avoid injury? If you did those 2 things, the weekend was a success.

If you did those 2 things, the weekend was a success. For the older kids there have been some coaches there in the past. Not a long drive for ATL area schools and SC and some NC schools so not entirely friendlies for some of the kids. All preseason tournaments are meaningless friendlies for U15 teams and up, but people still pay attention to the scores.

My point is wins or losses in the preseason do not necessary correlate into success or failure in the regular season. This is particularly true when the preseason uses a different set of rules than the regular season (i.e.--unlimited subbing, unlimited rosters, shorter games, etc.)

yea, wouldn't read to much into any results from games I watched. open subs, shorter games etc.
complex had added 3 upper fields, if they add a few more, and a facility up top, place should/could host nationals for ecnl boys/girls. Good for atlanta folks probably, but bad for the rest of the country potentially. But they have a few fields that are huge, and great surfaces.

Yes, they do have some great fields and usually ample parking, but they need more police presence for traffic on nearby roads by the park. Not sure how helpful that nearby traffic light is.

That is why I like wenwood better than mesa. Beautiful fields that are as fast as turf but plenty of parking and easy to get in and out of.
Mesa is a fantastic complex but it takes forever to find parking and even longer to get out after a game is over.

Personally I think Bryan parks fields in Greensboro are overrated.
Fields are very inconsistent from field to field, and the venue has horrible parking and zero championship vibe. But some of the fields are utter garbage.

Mesa is a fantastic complex but it takes forever to find parking and even longer to get out after a game is over. Yes, we played our second game at Wenwood and it was a much better experience by far! Parking at MESA had us coming in from the back entrance for some reason (thanks WAZE), and it was a nightmare.

re: MESA - the best way in & out is Thompson Rd. If you're leaving MESA, just put your destination in Waze/Google and get on Thompson Rd (so that the fields are on your right as you exit). None of the GPS apps account for that ridiculous traffic light that's on Anderson Ridge Rd. With the # of teams playing in the CESA friendlies and the fees they charge ($600 for our team), it's amazing they can't find enough money in their budget for a cop to run that light and control the flow of traffic better.

new master exit strategy this year. went left on anderson rd from the park. right on Jonesville rd right on Woodruff rd -- (traffic got backed up again here) left on Gresham rd (before traffic was backed up) right on Scuffleton rd
it brings you out at the publix on Woodruff rd.

We've played in the CESA tourney in mid/late November the last 2 years and I'm pretty sure they had a cop there, so that may be what you're thinking of. Just so odd not to have one for these friendlies.

The field we were on Saturday and Sunday was green and fairly smooth, but it was hard as a rock. The girls all wear the firm ground cleats. Yet, the FG cleats didn’t help our striker when she took a PK and her plant foot slipped like she was on a frozen lake. This girl is an ECNL U17 starting forward that’s scored 4 goals in 5 pre-season games; the problem wasn’t her technique or equipment.
Having said that I don’t want to leave this like it was a bad weekend. Overall we were happy with the trip. The field we used wasn’t a dust bowl, or a mud pit. Greenville has everything we needed, and is closer than some other options. We played two well matched opponents that aren’t in our region.

Which field? We found the field we were on both games (MESA #12) was in excellent shape. MESA 5. It was covered in green grass, cut well, and mostly flat. That makes it better than many alternatives. I probably shouldn’t have even brought it up. It’s just sour grapes because that PK could’ve kept it from being a 0:0 draw. Hey, I understand both teams had to deal with the field. The defender got away with a clear foul inside the box. She may have saved her team from an L; her mission accomplished. It was just a friendly, and fortunately the forward wasn’t injured. CESA is a good opportunity for the teams to knock off the rust.
