7A- Denmark (4 seed) x Osborne (1 seed) looks like it will also be a good matchup. Denmark was only team to beat Lambert this year in PK's. South Forsyth and Hillgrove could make deep runs.
6A- Region 7 has 4 (BT, Lassiter, JC and Sprayberry) out of the top 7 teams according to Scorboard rankings. Johns Creek was the top ranked team in the state for several weeks so they are no ordinary 4 seed. They are currently 7th in state and having to play 3rd ranked Lanier makes it an unreal 1st round matchup. Same goes for Blessed Trinity x Gainesville. Two teams who could have made deep runs will be out in the 1st round. Lassiter looks like they can definitely repeat.
5A- Rooting for my alma mater of Tucker but would be shocked if it's not McIntosh x Dalton in the final.

Don't have a kid playing anymore in high school. But when it comes to 5AAAAA, I'll be rooting for whoever plays McIntosh.

This post discusses 7A.
Cool that there is a boys thread. Now that the first round is done with here are my thoughts. This is for 7A... sorry don't know enough about other classes to comment.
Toughest Week 2 Games:
South Forsyth vs Norcross. Expect South to win but Norcross is pretty decent and gave Lambert a tough game. South seems like a team that grinds for wins and D Starvos is having a good senior year. If Norcross shuts him down can South find goals through some other players.
Walton vs Mill Creek. Don't know anything about this game but Walton beat a good Milton team so maybe Walton takes this one.
Collins Hill vs Denmark. Denmark lack serious scoring potential but they make up for it defensively. They keep games close and don't quit. Multiple times in overtime they have gone on to equalize after giving up a quick to goal and then won in PK's. For pk's I believe they are 4/5. Scrappy team. Don't know much about Collins Hill but I'm figuring Denmark can't keep relying on OT and PK's. Collins Hill advances.
Lambert vs Peachtree Ridge. What was supposed to be a down year for Lambert with 11 seniors graduating last year has turned into a solid team. Front three have 38 goals (14, 13 and 11) so scoring is pretty balanced. Back four have been solid as well. Don't know much about Peachtree Ridge as a team but know a couple of their players. D Romero heads to UNG next year. J Gallegos has always been a feisty player. Obviously they have talent based on their results. Picking Lambert but it would not be the night for Lambert to struggle scoring.
As long as I picked four games might as well pick 8.
Archer over E Coweta Pebblebrook over Parkview S Gwinnett over Campbell Brookwood over Richmond Hill
---
Some other stats for 1st round:
#1 seeds went 5-3 #2 seeds went 7-1 #3 seeds went 1-7 #4 seeds went 3-5
Region 1: 1-3 Region 2: 3-1 Region 3: 0-4 Region 4: 4-0 Region 5: 1-3 Region 6: 3-1 Region 7: 2-2 Region 8: 2-2

7A second round complete. Some upsets and some expected results. Overall I went 4-4 in my picks.
The upsets:
Norcross Beats South Forsyth: 1-0 - I asked the question of where does South's scoring come from if Norcrosss shuts Dino Starvros down. No where. Norcross earns their way to the elite 8.
Parkview beats Pebblebrook 2-1 --Not really sold on Parkview, yet here they are taking down a #1 seed. Looks like some GSA boys have come to play and will do so in the elite 8.
Stunner to me: Richmond Hill defeats Brookwood 3-2 in OT. -I don't often give much respect to schools south of I20 but Richmond Hill not only drove 4 1/2 hours, they get to go home with the "W". Two OT wins in a row puts you in the final 8.
Could have gone either way:
Archer beats E Coweta: 1-0 -Team above I20 beats team below I20. Know nothing about either team so it could have gone either way, I guess.
Walton Beats Mill Creek 2-1 Another game where I don't know much about the two teams. I picked Walton bc they beat a good Milton team. 50/50 guess on my part.
Collins Hill Beats Denmark in Penalties --I picked Collins Hill in this game bc I thought that Denmark's OT/PK luck couldn't hold. It did not. Denmark finishes the year 4-2 in Penalty shootouts.
Went about as expected:
Campbell beats South Gwinnett 2-0. I picked Campbell but have not seen them play. Supposedly they have a striker on a National team but other than hearing that I know nothing.
Lambert beats Peachtree Ridge 4-1 --I watched this game so have more input. I expected more of a 2-1 game than the final score. But, don't let the final score fool you. This was a much closer game with Lambert scoring the go ahead goal in the 35 minute off the second half to make it 2-1, then punishing PR for trying to push for the tying goal, netting 2 goals in the last 3 minutes. PR's coach said that this was one of the best games they played. It showed with probably 65% possession and they probably outshot Lambert, but Lambert did more with their opportunities. PR came to play and on the surface may have looked the better team. But I previously mentioned Lamberts front three had 38 goals (14, 13 and 11) and they added four goals so that now the distribution is (16, 15, 11). MVP for Lambert, though, is the back 4 led by Phillip Head that continue to hold the opponents in check until the offense gets rolling.
Some other stats for 1st round:
Seeds Remaining #1 - 2 #2 - 5 #3 - 1 #4 - 0
#2 seeds are holding strong
Teams left Via Region
Region 1: 1 Region 2: 1 Region 3: 0 Region 4: 2 Region 5: 1 Region 6: 1 Region 7: 1 Region 8: 1
Looks like a good balance among the regions.

I've seen a couple of videos from the South-Norcross game.
The PK call that Norcross converted seemed iffy from the angle of the video. Looked like the Norcross player passed the ball in the box and then tripped over his own feet or lost balance. I can see where the ref might have erred on the side of caution on that one.
However, I also saw another video later in the game where South was I think awarded a PK when the Norcross keeper took out a player. Only it was overruled by an offside call on the player who was fouled. Video I have seen shows the player was not in an offside position when the ball was played in. Judging by the yard markers on the field, he appears onside. South player looks to be at the 18 with the Norcross defender in front of him at the 17. What is even more telling and inexcusable is that the side judge isn't even with these two players to correctly call an offside. He is back past the 20 yard line, and in no way in position to make that call. If you're not in position, you keep the flag down. Either way, it was a dangerous play by the keeper whether the player was offside or not. Honestly not sure what the rules of the game are in that situation.
Still no excuse for South to not have scored against Norcross. Based on their stats, they have plenty of other players not named Stavros who have scored this season, and the only other team to shut them out was Lambert.

Also sounds like the keeper should have been cautioned or ejected if it was violent conduct.

I saw the Peachtree Ridge at Lambert game, as well. Both goalkeepers were outstanding. Admittedly, I didn’t see the opening goal that made it 1-0 Lambert, but it looked to me like Lambert didn’t want to push the ball upfield until were forced to by Peachtree Ridge tying the score. Lambert seemed content to pack it in defensively and take their chances. They gave up a lot of corner kicks and free kicks, and Peachtree Ridge eventually broke through. It was a very exciting game until the last few minutes when Lambert broke it open.

Westminster and SE Whitfield in an instant classic tonight.
1-0 Westminster until SEW scores with about 20 seconds left in the 2nd half.
Both teams awarded and covert PKs in the 2nd OT, and in PKs Westminster goalie stops 2 (he's a beast) for the win.
Fun to watch.

I am sure it is 2 different teams at this point in the season.

7A is down to the final four teams.
#1 Lambert beats #17 Richmond Hill 2-0: Lambert scored early in first half and early in second half to create separation. Richmond Hills's best chances came off of set pieces but beyond that they struggled offensively. Lambert probably should have won this game by 4 goals but lack of finishing and some good saves by GK kept it closer.
#3 Collins Hill defeats #18 Campbell 3-0: Collins Hill was up 1-0 in first half and puts game out of reach with two second half goals.
#4 Walton downs #21 Parkview 2-1: Parkview had a good playoff run but once again the higher ranked team prevails.
#25 Archer beats #19 Norcross 1-0: Credit to Archer going on the road and beating a pretty good Norcross team.
----------------------
Which brings us to the final four matchups:
Collins Hill (18-3) Vs Lambert (19-1-1)
Archer (11-8-1) Vs Walton (14-4-2)
Seeds Remaining #1 - 1 #2 - 3 #3 - 0 #4 - 0
Teams left Via Region
Region 1: 0 Region 2: 0 Region 3: 0 Region 4: 1 Region 5: 1 Region 6: 1 Region 7: 0 Region 8: 1

The Walton / Parkview game was fantastic. Walton dominated the first half and was up 1-0 off a headed corner in the 28th minute
Parkview came out in the second half and took it to Walton in the first 20 minutes and tied the score. Walton started to get nervous and subbed in their two AU players to get the W. Joao Ramos is the real deal. He dribbled thru 5 kids to score the game winner

I didn’t think boys who play for AU were allowed to play High School? Are they not active AU players anymore?

Honestly, they shouldn’t care Great to see those kids have the opportunity to play for their school…they played great and played with passion But it is just weird that the players were inserted late, Ramos’ goal was not posted on the Twitter account (but the still photo of the goal is prominently displayed in the Gwinnett paper) and did not appear to pose in the post game team picture
Let them play We forget these are still kids

AU at the U19 ahe bracket are not part of MLS Next, but are UPSL.
Only these MLS clubs have a U19 squad competing in MLS Next:
Minnesota Utd NE Revs Toronto FC Columbus Crew FC Cincinnati Sporting KC FC Dallas

Forgot to mention, since AU U19s are UPSL they may play HS. No MLSN restriction. A U19 AU parent informed me that AU Acad allow U19 kids to play HS, but are held out of all AU U19 comps until their respective HS seasons are over.

It begs the question….if AU allows it at U19, why act so secretive? I know last year AIS had their AU players openly play all season during HS

Lassiter, John's Creek and Blessed Trinity all made the final four and are from the same region in 6A. That region is insane.
Surprised McIntosh got upset by Midtown. They were ranked the best overall team in the state according to one website.

Lambert beat Collins Hill 6-5 in a PK shootout.
From reading Twitter, looks like the Lambert head coach was also red carded at some point. Not sure what that means for the final next week.

An exciting game to say the least against #1 v #2. The lights came out for about 20 minutes right after the end of first OT. And yes Lambert HC red card. Apparently he snuck back to be with team when the lights were out when he wasn't supposed to after receiving the red card.

In 7A
The Lambert vs Collins Hill game was a slug fest. Collins Hill probably was the better team in first half, but by second half it was fairly equal. Both teams had quality shots, and both goal keepers had some good saves. Collins Hills scored on a header but a hand ball was called. Lambert looked like they scored on a header but the ball was cleared even though it looked like it crossed the goal before. After 20 minutes of OT did not settle the game it came down to PK's.
After each team had 1 miss in the seventh frame Collins ill was denied by the post and Lamberts shot taker hit a upper 90 to send Lambert to State.
Walton beat Archer 2-0 with goals in the first half and doesn't seem like they were challenged.

Looks like the issues for the CH vs Lambert game are flying in...head coach for Lambert got a red card and never left the team area and during the blackout he coached his team in the corner for 20 minutes until the lights came on. Eye witnesses, video footage, and the referee report have all confirmed he stayed and coached...GHSA has been contacted. If a red carded coach kept coaching....that's serious problem

Rumor has it's been reported to GHSA about Lambert HC being in huddle after being shown a RC and he was seen leaving field as lights were coming back on for game to resume. I don't see anything happening or being changed. I agree with your game analysis, I will add first OT was evenly played while second OT Collins Hill put Lambert on their heels and could not get out of their defensive half. Lambert should win against Walton in finals. Although with Lambert HC not being on sidelines, Walton just may have a chance.

He was, just decided rules don't apply to him I guess....I agree GHSA is weak armed when it comes to these types of things, but....if a player got a red card and then went back into the match, the game woud have to be abandoned. Why would it be different for the coach? An adult...who sat in front of the kids he is leading and demonstrated that rules don't matter.
