On the girls side in Georgia, who is even doing NPL currently? Are Ambush girls parents even pleased with this move?

Wake FC is 6 hrs away, Charleston 5.5, Alabama 3.5, Barca 4 hrs I think if it’s the one in Charlotte.
Ambush, Impact, SSA, UFA local. Which UFA & SSA locations/teams will be doing it?
I’m asking an Ambush mom I know what they think.

They had a girls side for years which was UFA second team prior to ECRL. SSA, AFC Lightning had their top teams in it as well. The problem is the landscape changes all of the time and the teams were changing every year. I hope it works for Ambush. I just worry about the constant changes and will they move into an unstable league or will it stabilize and provide their players a good place (on the girls side)? I think boys side will be fine

Why not just consolidate all the lower tier leagues into 1 for more competition and less travel burden on families.

Yea, the system is set up for mega clubs but I think Ambush is in a unique spot because of the city of Alpharetta status. Don't think they ever would look enticing to a MLS next or ECNL.

NPL is competitive in some areas of the country, but here we don’t need it except it could be a good adjunct league for some teams to get more games in. I don’t think it is a good plan for most clubs but it is probably the only option for Ambush except possibly DPL. IMO they should have done that for their girls side, but maybe they weren’t accepted. I don’t know their inner workings. All of the leagues are money grabs.I will say that from what I have seen of college and the U19 age groups there are a lot of kids that are VERY good who choose not to play in college. Many kids playing SCCL and NPL can play in college because of those “elite” kids that elect to be done. They just don’t play D1

Yeah probably me too. I wonder if they consulted with parents at all... (Some might be excited though, if they have the time, money & will to go for 4-6 hr road trips.) I think they should have just stayed in SCCL, they were doing well there.

They are staying in SCCL by the way, just their top team from the age group will be NPL. We have a U12B there and are likely moving him, but in all honestly were looking to anyway. They did not consult the parents (at least not the team managers that I know), including having the U12s move to SCCL this spring

I know on the Ambush boys side they have tried for years to get ECNL status and don't think they even get a response. They applied for MLS next this year and didn't get it. The issue is they lose their best players as they get older to ECNL and ECNL R. The boys get to high school and want to play against the best competition. SCCL continues to get watered down year after year. SSA could likely move their SCCL team to NPL because of the 2nd division of MLS next. The NPL South Atlantic was strong two years ago but SC Surf took their NPL national championship team to ECNl and UFA Norcross moved to E64. They had a showcase last year in NC where they played 3 teams from the East bracket which are all teams outside of GA but it's going to be in Atl this year. Some families will enjoy the additonal travel and others not. Seems like there are some good teams and bad teams I the NPL but Ambush had to move their top teams who have done good on the boys side. It's either that, be happy with a good rec and academy program or eventually merge with some team like Concorde North and can't see that ever hapenning.

I would take SCCL over NPL any day of the week and wait for something else. The only thing that might be worse would be if they went E64 but E64 does give you more chest-thumping bravado since it is new, and people haven't totally soured on it yet. And it has the word elite in it, which is always important. Maybe the big clubs could at least open up ECRL to clubs like Ambush. I am unsure why they had to move their top teams to NPL or they would become a rec league. Actually, I think it does the opposite, if I was at the Ambush boys program id either try to go to UFA or Santos and save my money/time and let my kid have fun at soccer. Lastly, aren't all the leagues meaningless? What gives them meaning? To me, SCCL, NPL, ECRL, MLS Next, and ECNL. They are just artificial constructs designed to perpetuate a pay-to-play system that benefits everyone but the consumers (kids/parents) and ways to group kids by skill level. Some kids are truly special, they are probably at AU or with the YNT by now or they are the top player at Concord or NASA. The fact that we break up our soccer talent in Atlanta between MLS and ECNL tells you everything you need to know about US soccer and how much the leadership actually cares about the players.

A few years back, the competition in NPL was decent…the travel was not enjoyable. We’d be in Chattanooga on Saturday and Greensboro Sunday. Also, we’d meet at a neutral site sometimes that was convenient to no one (like Savannah). If the competition has gone down, I’d stay in SCCL. Just my 2 cents.

We did not have a weird issue like that on the girls side. We played Wake Fc and another Raleigh area team same weekend so one trip to that part of NC and had a Charlotte trip too. The only pain was the trip to Charleston to play one game. Other away games were local Atlanta teams. My problem with it was that the teams changed every year as the better teams were chosen to play GA/DA and ECNL so it got watered down. We left to play Covid year for higher level of play at a different club, but not just because of the league. Honestly having had a kid play NPL at U14 and 15 and have one play SCCL at U13 I feel like SCCL is the better deal for parents. Hard to compare competition for us because this year we had to play 3 U12 teams playing up so we played some amazing teams. Even if there is a slight difference at U14 it is not worth it. Older age groups might be worth it, but I am not convinced of that on the girls side. I would not leave Ambush if I was there since I don’t mind the travel, but I would not leave another club to go there for that reason alone. I think they will lose players still to the ECNL/MLS teams, and I think they will lose players who don’t want that kind of travel too

Let’s be honest NPL is a joke. If I’m an ambush parent I’m running. Especially at the academy ages so they can get a chance to work into a club with a better option.

Yes thanks, have a couple of plans going, both will avoid driving across neighboring states for my non-elite kid to play. She’s good, but she’s not that good lol. She doesn’t even want to so it’s not like I’m the meanie mom.

Anyone know what teams UFA are putting in? Looks like UFA is doing third teams out of Forsyth for girls. BTW announced on soccerwire… The following six clubs are adding their U-13 through U-19 boys and girls teams: • Alpharetta Ambush SC (GA) • Carolina Velocity FC (NC) • Georgia Impact SC (GA) • James Island Youth SC (SC) • One Knoxville SC (TN; boys only) • The Bulls Soccer Club (GA) So that is in addition to UFA, SSA, Charleston, Barca, Wake and North Alabama Soccer Coalition. I feel like I am having deja by from when my older child played NPL at UFA before ECRL existed
