I feel like American coaches emphasize "effort" too much. I guess it's the American dream... Work hard and you will achieve your goals. I've often seen players who run a lot & work hard be favored over players who appear lazier but actually achieve more in the games. One smart pass is better then 5 failed dribbles.
Also something about the rivalry within teams is not good. Some players are afraid to play well as a team because it might make someone else look good who might get more playing time than you. I don't think it's like this as much in Europe.
I've read Zlatan's book. He played soccer for fun outside in the "ghetto" where he grew up. Maybe that's why basketball is successful here, because kids play it for fun a lot. Being smart and technical is probably appreciated among peers, not just "effort".

There is a growing feeling that AAU basketball is failing American kids too. Players from around the world are starting to do better in the NBA than those AAU players identified early as “stars”.

Wow, really? Why do you think that is? Youth basketball is getting broken too?

Pay to play is poison, perhaps?

Remember when Miggy and Josef came along to AU? And they celebrated wins by saying “I want to give everything for this crest” while pointing at their shirt? That seems to be a South American CLUB mindset. I wonder what they’d say after playing in MLS for a season or more. We don’t have clubs. Here is a nice explainer for why this matters open.spotify.com/episode/09cUfMSvW0M8OUew4PmGbX?si=f3JC8z9SSyq2hFrOcrf62A

Only Atlanta team that I see with MLS Next is SSA. Where did Inter, LSA, and AFU end up? Just typing that makes me really question why someone not at AU would choose that league.

Are SSA girls are leaving GAL for USL?

No. USL A is still basically a summer and showcase league.
AFAIK SSA is remaining where they are. They have had the USL A signage for a couple of years. It’s part of the branding with their USL2 team.

From what I've gathered, there might be some changes coming up next season, but the details are still a bit murky.

USL-Academy (USL-A) is a U20 (for now) summer league that falls sort of in line with where USL 2 is on USL schedule.
It isn't taking the place of MLS Next for non MLS affiliated academies--
