The reality is that the top team coaches at ECNL/GA clubs know who all the top players are before they come to tryouts. The rosters are, at a minimum, 75% complete before the first night of tryouts even start. And while it may be that 2nd team level players "get a look" from coaches for possible 1st team slots, the difference from 2nd to 3rd team and lower is huge in terms of focus from the club and focus from coaches on the night of tryouts. That is generally true for any club: UFA, TopHat, Concorde, SSA, GSA, ETC.. If your child isn't clearly a top team player who is known by the coaches on some level before tryouts, then your best hope is to maybe get on the 2nd team.

Slight edit, just because so many (not you) believe that everyone that is a top player is identified by U13. Everything else is spot on. Fair- "They generally know" is equally fair and more to the point here; if you throw a top player on a field with 3rd team players at tryouts, they will be noticed.

Most NL/RL clubs (boys side for sure) have been doing invite training sessions since May 1st. I would guess 95% of the NL rosters are set before tryouts.
When you fill out the tryout forms remember they ask what team you currently play for. Coaches know who and what level are coming to tryouts and ID clinics. That is how they determine who to watch generally. Yes, you can still catch their eye but generally that's going to be for a 2nd/3rd team spot.
My son went to most of the ID clinics, some for fun and others he was curious about. He said UFA's camp was by far the best in regards to coaches actually watching.
So when is GSA putting out the older tryout times haha...

Does UFA still post their teams as they are made?

TYSA mostly threw everyone on the field and had them play scrimmages. IMO it's hard to see individual player strengths and weaknesses by only doing 11v11 scrimmage assessments. They were using a new system of ipads/phones to keep track of players' "points" but hard to tell if the coaches were even paying attention. Seems like they already had teams pre-chosen. Invites are supposed to go out today. It’s probably easy for them since they know what they’re looking for

How has tryouts been at Tophat this week? Tryouts have been great across all age groups I agree. We did Buckhead. This was our first time and everyone was great. Girls had fun and communication has been excellent so far. Of course ours are on the younger side so definitely less competitive and stressful. The sense I got from some of the older parents was the same though.

I don't know what the data points where; but I did see eyes on all fields constantly at least with the 2012's.
