Okay, I am so over this rain. We are lucky to have an indoor and an outside turf field to practice on, but don't think we are going to get our games in at Marathon or Pinckneyville. Thoughts anyone?? They have alredy extended the season, and allowing tournament games to count against season opponents. Does youth soccer need to be just in the fall for all age groups??

I tell everyone all the time, spring sucks (sorry for the language), between the rain and the 40,000 different spring breaks in this city....
that being said, i'd rather my kids still be playing the greatest game on the planet vs anything else, so i'm fine with it. Hard to start earlier in jan/feb, because RPL/NPL was canceled alot due to rain/snow etc. Not much to do except play through easter and spring breaks!
the solution is simple, need more turf. i hate games on turf, but what are you going to do, its becoming the only option. the cost is steep, but the standard at each club should be %50 turf fields. If i had 10 million to throw away i would turf the fields... thats the exact problem though, money for turf and "is your park next in line"

we started our season (RPL) in Jan and ended a few weeks ago...and had no rainouts, we got very lucky!
Pickneyville has been closed almost all week so doubt any games will happen there, I dont think anyone will be playing this weekend

The weather has been horrible for the high schools too. Some schools ended up canceling games for those who don't play on turf and many teams were playing back to back games just to get them in. Crazy weather this year...

Not sure if they will cancel on the turf. We play at the Norcross fields, and the county owns them, so no control over closing or not closing. It may be open as an exception.

hate to be a scheduler..... As a coach it sucks knowing the only options are Monday's and Wednesday's with maybe Friday May 1st to get these last few games in.

Crazy weather this year... We had more high school games cancelled for cold than rain. All but one got made up. Then again, they only played one game on grass - everything was turf - based on the turf burn my kid got, I'm still not a fan but considering spring in Georgia, clubs seriously need to either own their own fields and just deal with the wear and tear or turf something nearby. I think clubs need to work with counties and cities to create more turf fields - ironic that the city of Roswell has the most gorgeous public turf fields and they are the least likely to share them with GA soccer.

I'm sure the growth of lacrosse isn't helping either for turf space.

It would probably be quicker to post which grass fields were open vs listing closures. This rain is brutal.

Just as a FYI- Georgia Soccer has extended the spring season to May 31st to accommodate reschedules. Our fields are closed and I tried to be proactive to find a turf field to move our game today and the opposing coach told me he wouldn't be able to field a team at that time, now another reschedule

Props for taking that initiative. even if I only had 11-12 I'd still rather have my girls play then deal with all these rescheudules. I know my friends at Chiefs said they got all their games in by renting out silverbacks.

Nice thread strikermom. Its nice that you all get to practice still at least. Why not play games indoor or on turf? Quick question does AFU have an indoor facility and have you all been able to at least practice with all the rain?

I'm with UFA, our indoor space is really small, not big enough for games. The turf field belongs to city of Norcross, they onky yes it for tournaments and practice. Don't think anyone uses it during the season.

GFC and Bluesprings closed. Chiefs are all on at silverbacks again as long as the sirens stay off. Pretty sure that siren is non existent, or broken. I played in a horrendous thunderstorm a couple years ago at Silverbacks park, and there was no siren. The fields next to the stadium (the one used as a parking lot on game days) had literally 4" of water over against the bleachers, because the drains couldn't handle the rain. There were several lightning strikes close though, and we foolishly played on. It was among the dumbest things I've ever done. And I've done some Stupid stuff in my life... Anyway, please be smart out there people. And don't wait for a siren.

Barely rained that much and like yesterday turned into a great day for soccer.

Nice facility. They're turfing a few more fields in the next couple of years at Fowler. And from what I heard, Forsyth County is putting a few others in other areas. I hope the new Norcross soccer complex will have some turf fields

We got very lucky. The TM from our Saturday opponent pulled through with a turf field. Nice day for a game. Sunday games (we had a double header) have to reschedule 1 but the second we found a turf field and a ref crew and it was a GORGEOUS evening for a game. Other that turf this spring I don't know how anyone is playing anywhere. Our DOC took pictures of our "grass" field Sunday midday. Standing water everywhere. And that was after the rain had stopped. Perhaps a new form of soccer - water polo inspired...
