Brutal. Brutal.
Great comments and responses by their captain and Sampson.
England captain Steph Houghton has just spoken to the BBC There's no words to describe it. I'm so proud of all the girls and staff. We've been on an amazing journey. That's football. It can be cruel at times but I think we can hold our heads high and pick ourselves up to go face Germany on Saturday.
We want to try to finish third if we can, and we've gave a good account of ourselves throughout the tournament. Thanks of much for the support. It just wasn't to be today.
England coach Mark Sampson has just spoken to the BBC I think we have to just first and foremost congratulate the players on an incredible tournament. I do want to state straight away Laura Bassett's name is on that score sheet, but she's epitomised this tournament. She didn't deserve that but she'll be looked upon as a hero. That's what people will remember.
It's okay to cry. They left everything on the field. They couldn't give anything more. They didn't deserve that. We came to this tournament as a huge underdog and the weight of a nation on our back. I'm just so proud of them. They've really inspired the nation back home. They deserve to go back home as heroes.

Cruel ending to that one.
At least she hit it "upper 90"...

Felt so horrible for her! Such a horrible way to get knocked out but England had plenty of chances. Was hoping for a England vs. USA final on a Independence Day weekend! Oh well, maybe the USWNT can exact some revenge on the Japanese team. They owe them one and are coming off their best game in a very long time.
