So what is the protocol for returning players to odp. Yes they miss the first night of tryouts. Do the coaches have information from the previous year? How much from the previous year is taken into consideration, do the returning coaches, rank their current returning players 1 to 60 and then go from their based upon who new makes it to states?
I assume all the invited regional pool players rank high on the list and shouldn't be in jeopardy correct?

My understanding is returning players go straight to the final tryout, but do not get any additional consideration after that.
Region players are also not automatically protected.

Players who were in the state pool the previous year are automatically on the exempt list and go straight to state tryouts (no pre-lim). Returning players are not supposed to have any deeper consideration once at the state tryout , but there's always some politics involved.
Because there's usually less players trying out as they get older (15+), those groups tend just to have states.

I see it both ways. You want a clean slate, but then you don't want to make mistakes. I see no problem using information on kids you had under your guidance the previous full year. But if an agegroup only invites 20 out of 60 kids to regional camp for example, those kids should all make it the next year unless 40 studs magically appear the following year.
I think that is a huge issue, hum lets ignore 1 full year of evaluations and then base everything on what we see in 2 hours at state pool playing small sided games.

I'm pretty sure that they have information on a lot of the kids...but they take less and less kids as they get older and thats why some kids dont make it the second year. If last years "studs" all automatically get in, it doesn't leave much room for other kids that may be trying out for the first time or kids that developed later.

I assume all the invited regional pool players rank high on the list and shouldn't be in jeopardy correct? I'm sure they have information from the previous year. Good or bad. Not sure about the pool players getting preferential treatment but my guess it's more an individual thing and that the 12 or so kids that made the regional team/alternates would have some 'advantage', but they're all good players so I'd expect them to make the team. I think the hardest thing for a new player is to get seen and get the touches on the ball, but they had three teams at camp last year, so there's lots of room!

I agree about the kids that made the regional team/alternates. I have heard though that as they get older there will be less teams, the 01's had 2 teams and the 00's had 1 team and it was by invitation going to regional camp
