So GA United willingly gave up u16 and u18s? Why would they do that?

hard to imagine that a NASA/UFA/SSA alliance just got their DA stripped from them

Well that luncheon they had for us clubs today was a polite way of saying "we are taking your best players and there's nothing you can do about it so here's a free a lunch and Atl United car magnet"

Maybe Atlanta United will not field a u12, u13 and u14 squad and will rely on Ga Uniteds squads, then only have u16s and u18s? This is contradictory to the soccerbyives and dirtysouthsoccer report though.

This is contradictory to the soccerbyives and dirtysouthsoccer report though. Maybe? The US soccer one you linked to, doesnt mention the U12 for Ga United and it only talks about the 16's and 18's for Atlanta United. They seem to praise GUSA in their article and their model for success so i think that a relationship has been built. At the end of the day...I think with the MLS academy coming next year and it will be free like the other MLS academies, kids will rather play there than the other 2..even if they get even less play, according to the article they will train at the same facility as the team.

I don't have any connection to any of these clubs (and no boys) so I'm looking at this neutrally. Wouldn't it make sense to funnel the best U12-U14 players from three teams into two? I thought the whole point of DA was to strengthen the national teams.

The big miss is that this will exclude a lot of kids in metro Atlanta - specifically to the west and north of the perimeter. I understand many of you are willing to move your house next to the field or know of kids from Kansas that fly in, but you would be crazy to think that getting over there at 5PM four days a week is feasible for most kids. They should have just kept three DA programs.

I agree, would have preferred to have three teams with the two developing talent clearly for the top (MLS) team.

Well it reads that ATLUnited will have teams from U12+ however, U14/U16/U18 will be DA.
How many U12's (04's) next year will go to ATLUnited and how many will stay and play for U12 DA at GU and CF? Will it be better to get one year of DA under the belt or just jump ship and start with the U12 MLS team?
How many will travel that distance for MLS DA vs going to CF for a closer DA program at the U14/16/18 age groups.
All i can say is that end of May is going to be crazy!!

Still not seeing much details confirming if both GA United and Atlanta United will have u12, u13 and u14 DA teams. If they indeed do both have it, seems a little odd...
My guess is if both have u12 through u14 DA program, the top kids will be funneled to MLS DA u12-u14s and GA united will keep the leftovers that then have to go back and find a team at u15 in classic/rpl etc and given rpl status will be created at u13 some kids might not have a top tier team to go back to. This will get very interesting.

I dont know why any kid would want to go play DA before U14, makes no sense to me to put a kid through that at such young age. I talked to a kid thats playing DA U14 the other day (this is his first year), i asked him if he missed his old team..he sd to me, i just miss playing. Some kids sit on the bench for whole games and when they do play they don't see any significant playing time -- this is not developing anything.
