Was thinking of totaalvoetbal when I read about Cruyff's lung cancer diagnosis. Cruyff is not that old. 68. What a great great player. And obviously a great soccer mind, although I must admit in interviews he also sometimes sounds a bit whacky. But that is all part of the legend. Both of our players wear his number. And they both regularly employ the Cruyff turn. Sometimes it devolves into the Ronaldo chop...variants on a theme. Might be kind of fun to have a thread devoted to Cruyff memories, anecdotes, highlights, etc...

Very few players or coaches, if any, have affected the game the way he has. His impact has been unmeasurable.
I always find it fascinating when a player, from any sport, can become a quality coach in the sport they played. It is actually not that common. Even rarer to do it as well as he did.

Yeah terrible news. To me he is kind of like the "mad scientist" of soccer, a bit quirky with some things, but secretly is a genius. The way he could just glide around the field and with how quick his touches were, it just made him a legend. I also agree with coachjd about how johan has impacted the game of soccer. I don't think I have a favorite moment per se, but I always love hearing his interviews and methods of coaching. Very innovative for soccer.

My youngest wears his number as well. When I told her after practice that he had passed she said she did his turn on one of her teammates. His legacy will live on with his influence on the current and future players of the sport.

Both of my sons will be doing Cruyff turns at their games tonight and tomorrow in honor. I told them both they must do a turn.
